I don't actually see it doing anything, it just goes into cooldown with no apparent visual effect? am I missing something?

You must be close to the enemy. I think it works only against enemies, mines etc in a range <3 km. If it does, then you can see a tetryon beam that jumps from target to target. Actually, I have the feeling, that this skill is pretty useless.

It has 3km range. I had the same issue until that was pointed out to me. I was hoping it would be as useful as an isometric charge but sadly it isn't.

Yeah took me a while to realise it only has a 3KM range, wasted quite a few charges before realising that. But to be honest, it's a useless ability.

    it's a useless ability.

I wouldn't call it useless. It's alright to clear close, low-HP objects like Tholian webs, mines (esp. tractor mines) or targetable projectiles (boarding craft, plasma torps etc..)

of course it has a long cd and low dmg, but did you really think they'd slot an ability as powerful as something that's mounted on a $15 ship and takes up a console slot into the rep system for free?

Just like the people that were expecting the Nukara pirate beacon to be as powerful as photonic fleet or the consumable scorpions as good as the real hangar pets...

I didn't expect any more from it than I did from the other Rep powers. I was just giving my opinion that it's not a very useful power, for the reason you stated, it has a high c/d on it.

ehh, ive had a few crit hits for 4-6k worth of dmg (maybe more), so i wouldn't call it useless, just not an 'i win button'

it works best against unshielded targets and you have to be close.

I've used it successfully, but very rarely. In the Vault Ensnared I flew into a group of ships while I was chasing down a vault weaver. EM was on cooldown and they were running circles around me. So I popped CSV II and the Tholian Rep power and boom- one banking pass and they're all fried.

I'm in an escort so it's pretty much useless. As mentioned above the range is ~3km. I might have time to pop it at the end of a strafing run, but I usually fire CSV and TS at ~8km (~5km by the time it triggers) and that doesn't usually leave much for the Tholian rep weapon to work.

I tend to get some alright use out of it for taking down fighters, swarms of frigates, and other small craft that are annoying. It can also be a nice way to stop a High Yield torp coming your way if nothing else is available at that very second.

So I would also not say it is "useless" but it is not that potent either. It is just a little additional damage you can deal from time to time. Sort of like "Why not?". If someone offers to pelt your enemy with a pellet gun are you going to say no?

Free extra damage is not useless. Sure, its weak but since it requires nothing to use, you might as well use it.

I use mine when I am webbed by the silly Tholians or against mines - also good when in a shuttle - , its not a useless ability and it has to be used sensibly (it will do nothing against big heavy targets but against the smaller ones, its nice to have)
