What are your preferred body Armor types for your self and NPCs? If you were to equip one type for your crew, what would you pick? I've read about body armor, but, I'm still baffled by the number of choices. I'm leaning towards something designed to protect against melee damage while relying on good quality shields for weapon blasts. Or, maybe something more well rounded would be better. I'm not sure.
His methods have become unsound.

    A good energy defense one

By that, not one that is good against Melee, but against energy damage.

As most of your enemies on ground are based for energy deal out, that it what I recommend.
Hopefully I'll come back from my break; this break is fun; I play intellectual games.

    I hope STO get's better ...

I prefer the energy damping armor myself up till about Cmdr level, then it's the energy harness, then later it's the sets.

I like polyalloy weave armor, useful for all missions.

Yup! In my personal opinion i think the Polyalloy weave armor is the best type of armor one can wear.

Besides my Omega and Nukara sets, I have my elite fleet set with my elite polyalloy weave armor, witch i think give the best protection overall, out of any armor in-game. Some one correct me if im wrong.

It really depends what you are going for there are some that help with damage in the situations where you are using a play style to take hits you would be right but there are some that are basically shoot and kill first or you die lol.

Edit: There are also setups like the jem hadar xii set is really good but you need to change it out when you fight any thing that uses melee weapons or other forms of phyisical damage like lunge, sweeping strikes, etc (mainly klingon, jem hadar, and hirogen are the ones you would face that would put you on the weaker side with that set).

I prefer energy dampening armors most of the time. With a few exceptions, most ground enemies deal energy damage primarily.

However, my Klingons use fleet physical augmentation armor for that +20 to melee damage, because bat'leth lol. And the three omega set armors- MACO, Omega, KHG- have the resistance stats of polyalloy (although they're sort of hybrids with other bonuses, too).

But I keep my boffs, at least, in energy dampening armor, and use that while leveling up.

I think it was suggested in a sticky guide somewhere here that:

BOff = Energy Dampening for +energy dmg or Pollyalloy for +physical damage (although I have a Klingon with Bat'leth + Phys Aug armor and darn it if I don't see some awesomeness from him).
My Captain = Integrated Target for +chance to crit

    Mileage varies.
