Foundry challenge 8: Romulan themed missions?

It seems like an obvious choice for the next foundry challenge. Just to be clear, I do not mean "Rom faction only" missions, since that is not possible. I mean Fed/KDF missions that are written from a Rom faction point of view, now that the Romulan faction is a thing and any Rom player will be allied with Fed or KDF. Hopefully this will happen so that the new Romulan faction can get some missions that are really designed from the ground up from their perspective :)

    Well, I have a Fed-allied Romulan mission that is 95% finished already, so that idea's just fine with me. :)

    No spoilerz! (But I plan on straying away from "make a mission that features X faction". In regards to one that would be "make a mission that only members of the Romulan Republic will play," I would wait for the Foundry tech that allows authors to make missions that only Romulan Republic characters can play.*

    *I don't know when this is happening.)

    I'd really like to put my vote out there for refraining from Foundry Challenges for awhile.

    The Foundry is a mess right now, everyone knows it.

    To post another "Challenge" right now would be at best foolish, and at worst disrepectful to authors. The tool is broken. Crash to Desktop for many users. Klingon Foundry totally unavailable to many users, SLOOOOOOW Preview map load times, pathing issues, broken maps on missions that still can't be republished because of said breaks.

    I repeat for emphasis , The Foundry Is a Mess.
    It would be totally unfair to ask authors to partake in a challenge when the tool used to create missions doesn't even work properly.

    Just my two strips of latinum,

    No disagreement that the foundry is in a sad state, but if you think not using it(either playing missions or creating them) is the solution you are wrong. PWE looks at numbers, and if they see a lot of people doing something, it gets attention. So the less people playing/using the foundry, the less attention it will get. Saying they shouldnt do a spotlight is only going to decrease the numbers that PWE sees and make it less likely that the foundry will get the attention it deserves.

    I do agree -- Challenge #8 will be postponed until further notice, unfortunately.

    Fortunately, we are working on resolutions to many of the big, outstanding Foundry issues (crashes, KDF creation, etc.) and hope to have those live in an upcoming patch. Watch for patch notes and updates from Frost!

    We're not saying there shouldn't be a spotlight. Hopefully the spotlights continue! The issue right now with the Foundry is that building is extremely difficult and frusrtating

    As a new user to the foundry, I can't imagine trying to do a foundry challenge with all the current problems, I've barely been able to test ideas and objects. I've put off all my big ideas until things get back up so I'm working on small-scale projects.

    I did have a good Romulan idea before I realised how much hassle it would be to do in the foundry, maybe I'll dredge it out if we do have a Romulan challenge.

    On the previous page someone said the foundry should not be showcased, and I think that is what the Spotlight is. So that is what I was referring to.

    I think we should still highlight the Foundry as far as playing. There are a lot of very high quality missions that are in very playable condition. What's wrong with the Foundry right now seems to be mainly on the editing side.

    So I don't know. Maybe we should hold off on mission building challenges but go back to getting new Spotlight missions.

    while I agree.... how long is the foundry going to be... "slow" ? days, weeks, months or by 2023?

    Better yet, 2024. By that time we'll all be good and p|$$ed off, and then maybe someone will start a riot over it that is broken up by a toon named Gabriel Bell (which blatantly violates the EULA by looking just like Avery Brooks) or something. ;)

    Can you give us any idea as to what the new theme of these challenges will be?

    Failing that... can we have a... "Build a PvP map" challenge :P

    I'd say we need a real fix for load times in place before any challenge. The workaround is fine, but that shouldn't take the place of a real solution.

    Bran did mention he's going to be starting the spotlights back up! Woohoo!
