Responding to a subordinates challenge

Never failed this doff mission so havent seen what it says when you do, but surely you should die (like perma-death) if you lose?

NB. OK, not gonna happen, but would be hilarious if it was the case. Rewards would have to be huge as a pay-off for the risk. Actually, maybe it should generate a instance in which you fight the pesky duty officer disputing your right to be in charge.....

Actually, if it fails or disasters, the flavor is not that you lost the challange, but that your crew questioned your motives.

Similarly, if the "Execute for Incompetence" assignment fails, it's not because the execution failed... but because the crew felt it was unjust or unwarranted.

My issue with that is that there should be no such response. These assignments should not - ideally - be DOFF assignments where you choose which crew gets executed, but where, reflecting what should happen, you get presented with evidence of an accused's guilt and essentially hold a court martial, as opposed to picking who you want to die which could be in error and get such a reaction. To me, that's just silly.

As someone who was having trouble building a Klingon crew because of being presented with too many of these assignments - which I was taking because I thought (wrongly? No one has actually confirmed this...) that I would somehow get penalised for ignoring them (Klingon or KDF allied ship, after all), by e.g. a mutiny or a % decrease on the DOff assignment success rate until I did, I am currently ignoring them as counter-productive (and as there is no evidence of my getting penalised for doing so), until I have plenty of crew and know how to replace them (which I now do, thanks to these forums).

Really they are DOff assignments purely as a means to an end, to help get rid of the build-up of DOffs which players have from taking recruitment assignments. I had missed those to start with as the only ones I saw at first required dilithium that I didn't have, hence having difficulty building up a crew - I kept executing them without being able to replace them!

In short, they are a bit daft, as presented, but when viewed purely as a game mechanic and a means to an end, many people do not care about that.

I for one would like to see these separated from DOff assignments as their own things and more true-to-lore and perhaps true to how things would happen on a KDF ship, but I cannot see that happening because, well, purely as a game mechanic, there is nothing wrong with it that a little bit of re-wording of how it gets presented would suffice in terms of my beef with it - and that may be deemed unnecessary or purely cosmetic, as well.
