From the creators of "Season 6 will be focused on PvP" and "Season 7 will be focused on PvP", we have the shiny new STO Season "Season 8 will be focused on PvP"
Hrmm, I think the most honest thing said was said by Stahl back in February. It will be after May. Yep, it could be forty years from now...but he was right, it didn't happen before May.
Geko's mentioned it being part of the endgame enhancements that will take place in S9/10 and beyond...
...of course, the Season thing is a discussion of its own.
LoR was going to be Season 8, but then it was not Season 8. The update after LoR was going to be Season 9, but now that might be Season 8.
So maybe they've got a new angle? PvP will be a part of Season 8, but they're going to call all the updates something else so that Season 8 never happens.
Cause there's that gut feeling that it will end up not being S8 again...heh.

The Adventure Zone will probably be just straight PvE as usual (heaven forbid the ickle PvEers be exposed to a true challenge). At least they're making it Space this time, I hate doing ground combat, I only tolerate it for storyline missions. This will likely be the first Adventure Zone that I'll actually set foot into and do something with. . .haven't done anything with New Romulus, Defera, Nukara, and other landlubber zones.
Same here. I proceed from the assumption that they will simply just throw the occasional verbal bone towards the PvP community, and then do very little or nothing. Ker'rat got 'worked on' because a dev 'had extra time'. . .it presumably wasn't even PLANNED.
Is not a surprise or a disappointment.
Reputation system with their usal Adventure Zones and grind PVE mission are going to be most of the seasons from now on.
That and news fleet holdings are here to stay. Maybe, betuine season and season they are going to release a new half made faction (Cof cof Cardassians) to sell some packs and new ships, and that guys is going to be the STO future.
It's simple, really. Turn Eta Eridani into an open PvP zone. There you go, new strategies, teamwork, builds will come out of that.

They'd have to mirror it...because not everybody wants to PvP. By mirroring it, they'd effectively neuter it - since folks wouldn't have to go there - it would just be the folks that wanted to go there - at which point, you might as well just create another Ker'rat.

According to the spoon-fed information Cryptic has created around the Federation/Klingon War, Eta Eridani is a hotbed of back-and-forth action. That sounds pretty much like PvP to me.
Move Drozana out of Eta Eridani, make EE an open PvP zone. That way, the RP/ERP players can do their business at Drozana, low levels can still head to Drozana to finish missions, and EE is a fun place of back-and-forth combat with the Federation versus the Klingons.

Well, first of all... Cryptic has killed off the "War" - it's over pretty early for everybody. Everybody's working together now against outside threats - enemy of my enemy stuff.
Second, this is a PvE game with PvP - they're not going to force nonconsensual PvP on their PvE players.
Third, well - don't really need a third - with the first two and what I said in the other post...
The third one is much simple: They think PVP does not give them money, so no PVP.
They only focus on money now, Fundry, PVP, RP, fixing bugs, that gives 0 dollars, so, they are not in the cryptic target.
There needs to be a return on the investment. They're a business. Rather than criticizing them for being a business (after all, if they did not make a profit - did not stay in business - there would be no game to play); shouldn't we in our suggestions offer suggestions that would show how Cryptic could get a return on the investment made into PvP?

So, do you agree with them that a good PVP system dont give them return of the money?
So, do you agree with them that a fixing bugs dont give them return of the money?
If you do, then you should work in cryptic.
We have a said here, if you have the chicken of the golden eggs, you can wait to have the eggs and be rich in the long term or you can eat the chicken and be happy in the short term.
Cryptic choose to eat the golden chicken by forgetting about PVP, foundry, roleplay, fixing bugs and adding fun to the game not just stupid grind.
So, do you agree with them that a fixing bugs dont give them return of the money?
They endeavor to address fixing bugs. New bugs will be introduced as they introduce new things. With the way they fork out the code while working on it, yes - this sometimes means that old bugs can be reintroduced. They endeavor to address fixing both new and old bugs. They can't wave a magic wand to fix everything in the blink of an eye. They also cannot simply address bugs while ignoring the creation of new content and features. So obviously they are well aware that fixing bugs is helpful to their revenue stream.
So again, it's nothing I've seen them see - and further - it's not something I could imagine them saying.

That's not an opinion that I share in the least.
They've done many things with the game that I do not agree with, but it's not my game. However, there is no denying that what they have done has increased revenue for the company and thus has put them in a better place to be able to address not only your concerns - but the concerns shared by many.
They didn't eat the golden chicken - they've tried to create an environment for it so that it will be more likely to produce those golden eggs for a long time to come...
I disagree with the logic that 'PvP doesn't earn money'. On the contrary, a good portion of the universal consoles that come with C-store ships aren't very useful outside of PvP. A number of BOFF skills aren't very applicable for average PvE. On top of that, the PvE in this game is so friggin EASY I could run it in a free Qin raptor with a borked turnrate. The higher-level ships are only truly relevant for PvP, because that's where the damned competition and challenge is. Someone buying a Fleet ship for mere PvE is, in my personal opinion, wasting their friggin money. What're they gonna do, blow up mindless PvE enemies 2 seconds faster?

And when is that going to happened? Not in season 8 at least.. maybe season 9? It was going to be S4, then 5, then 6, then 7, and it was going to be S8.. they keep earning money but the concerns shared by many are still forgotten.

See, um...I agree on some of the consoles, but I kind of have to disagree overall.
Let me try to explain this - I have tried elsewhere, and er...it never goes over well, lol.
Some of us see the continuing powercreep in the game without an increase in difficulty from the content. That can lead to premise that much of it is directed at PvP. I see the continuing powercreep without the increase in content, but I do not believe that it is for PvP.
Yes, there are things that some of us can do in PvE with RA ships (or lower) with the weirdest hodgepodge of gear, etc, etc, etc. However, there are folks out there that cannot. It's um...beyond them.
I consider myself an average at best player. An average player to me, would have no problem completing an ESTF (at current difficulty) in RA gearing. That's not STO's average player - that's not Cryptic's intended average player.
There are players out there that have trouble doing ISE in a Fleet ship that's fully geared with Mk XII URs out the wahzoo. They're the reason for the powercreep - not the PvP folks.
Cryptic is lowering the bar...over and over and over and over...the more powerful gear they put in the game, the more casual the player can come along and be the hero in STO.
Cryptic's revenue has increased in the past year or so...because of getting more and more folks into the game and getting them to spend more and more money. How much content has been added? How much gear has been added? How many more folks are doing PvP (or even how fewer people are doing PvP) in that same time?
Yep, I see them as constantly lowering the bar to make it easier for everybody's grandchildren, grandparents, and the neighbor's dog to play STO...
...ahem, yeah - it tends not to go over well...lol.
You are new? There are bugs in this game that exist even before open beta.
I followed the development of STO before Perpetual got the license. My participation in the beta was limited because the jump animation made me /facepalm so hard that it would have required prescription pain relievers to deal with. When invited back a year later, I installed - logged in - jumped - said WTF - and uninstalled again. Funny how things like that can matter to folks so much, eh?
Yes, there are issues that still exist from before the open beta (by the way, you do realize that an open beta is mainly for stress testing - the game is all but finalized at that point)...that some have gone and returned, etc, etc, etc.
Just because a certain bug is #1 on one person's list, does not mean that it is #1 on everybody's list. If something is not gamebreaking for the vast majority of the players, then with limited resources they are likely to work on other areas of the game. There are things that will also end up having to be accepted as bugs - because they are at the engine level. Etc, etc, etc...
And when is that going to happened? Not in season 8 at least.. maybe season 9? It was going to be S4, then 5, then 6, then 7, and it was going to be S8.. they keep earning money but the concerns shared by many are still forgotten.
The many in PvP are not the many in STO. No, that State of the Game is not going to have any PvPers tenting their jeans - but this is a PvE game - look what it's adding to the game as a whole. Cryptic is not here to make a game for you or me - they're here to make a game for as many folks as possible. Yeah, I slumped a little in my chair and sighed reading that thing from Stahl. Then again, it was very vague. It wasn't a detailed list of exactly what is going to happen between now and next January.
Geko had already put a damper on what was likely coming when things went from S8(S9-10) etc being about PvP to it being about endgame including PvP, etc, etc, etc.
STO will never be a PvP game. They may improve PvP here and there, but it's never going to be some Eden of Pew Pew. People need to take a long hard look at their expectations.
It will happen when it happens. It's odd, but for somebody that shared a saying about the chicken laying the golden eggs...a story about patience, you're not really showing much.
They've done many things with the game that I do not agree with, but it's not my game. However, there is no denying that what they have done has increased revenue for the company and thus has put them in a better place to be able to address not only your concerns - but the concerns shared by many.

I agree with you, but we keep waiting and waiting, grinding the new stuff not because is fun just because we want to keep our chars to 'date', waiting for PvP.
But how you keep the PvPer in the game until something is released for PvP? Or maybe we the pvpers are wrong by playing this game?. I don't know, I can stick around for 1 or 2 more Seasons maybe, but 'i'm hitting a point of boredom and getting tired of this wait. And I LOVE STO, it's an unique MMO with a great IP, I love Ground and Space and I enjoy every aspect of the game, but it sucks to see your favourite part of the game that you love not getting attention.
When invited back a year later, I installed - logged in - jumped - said WTF - and uninstalled again.
So, you havent live half of the lies, broken promises, bugs and years of hell of this game, that explain why you are so optimistic.
I envy you. I was like you 2 years ago.. "Season 3 is going be the good one" I said.. "Season 4 and the foundry are going to save the game" I told to mine fleet mates.. then it was maybe Season 5.. now is just "I dont give a dam".
Like I said, I envy your optimism, too bad I know them now.
I agree with you, but we keep waiting and waiting, grinding the new stuff not because is fun just because we want to keep our chars to 'date', waiting for PvP.

It's definitely annoying to have to stick around to try to keep up with all the Rep TRIBBLE, Event TRIBBLE, all the TRIBBLE... and er, well - that's kind of where I am with the game. Pop in to keep up on that and that's pretty much it. Maintenance mode - somewhere down the line, they may or may do something - like you said, another season or two...if that long, meh. I decided to give them the S9-10 thing - S8 being S9 now, if there's nothing actually to show in the S8...there's no point in sticking around for the S9.
They gave that estimate - I can see where they couldn't have done it previously, but I see where what they've done has put them in the position that they could do it over the S9-10/erS8-9. If they don't show with S8 at least some effort, then 'eff them. They're not in the financial position they were in last year, the year before, etc, etc, etc. No, they're not falling all over themselves while rolling in the moolah...but c'mon, eh?
Personally, like I mentioned in the other post - I quit the beta, didn't buy the game, because of Ground. I hate it. I don't do Ground STFs, don't do Ground PvP...outside of leveling and the stuff for the Winter/Summer Event - I don't do Ground. I'd rather pop a freighter outside of Sol or Qo'noS than go to Ground...I hate it that much.
But Space...yep, it's fun for me...it's not perfect by any means...but it's fun.
