Community Member drkfrontiers checks in to provide some important updates for PvP Boot Camp, including information about the next session and other developments.
I have witnessed a great deal over the last few months which has caused me concern for the vitality and long-levity of our beloved PvP community...
Each player needs to hold themselves to their own moral compass. Ask yourself if you are satisfied with an easy kill when it comes at the cost of undermining new player's involvement and support of PvP.
Examine your attitudes, manners and general forum decorum and dig deep into the reserves of friendship, support and encouragement.
Boot Camp, and more importantly PvP, needs you now more than ever!
(1) Roaming death squads. Instead of splitting up a five person team, the players group together and tag team one individual. Five people against one person type of scenario.
(2) Hunt, stealth, and attack one player. Within this particular setup, one player shadows a teammate in stealth. Once they come across a lone wolf, the visible player baits the opponent into a confrontation. Within seconds of the confrontation, the invisible (stealth) player drop kicks the target. Sometimes you get hit in the back with a pulsewave. Two against one scenario. After one target has been defeated, the two teammates carry out the same systematic execution on other players. As a result of this particular technique, Engineers and Science players get knocked off extremely quickly.
(3) Camping on opponent's respawn location.
If players are going to use the above techniques, I see no reason to play through another PvP match. I am not interested in playing space PvPs. I hope some sort of solution is devised, so I can go back to enjoying ground matches. Before the second Boot Camp session kicked off, I remember asking the group to teach players good sportsmanship. I was told, "We do not care." I guess the lack and decline in new PvP players has forced a change.
I told you so.
Side-Note to Cryptic: As a result of the science kit nerfing, the science officers are unable to keep up with Engineer and Tactical officers. Science officers are completely defenseless in PvPs. Engineers can stop you from firing. Tacticals can stealth attack from behind. Science officer kit damage gets shrugged off. I ended up deleting my science officer, for it was useless and powerless on the ground.
but wouldnt it be better if we first had some update to it? I mean, as it is, it is pretty much broken, hard to get into (reputation...), unbalanced, and left in the dark
The entire PVP system needs an overhaul before I would get any enjoyment out of it. Also, there's the general lack of something to fight for and no open PVP areas to be had.
Ground PVP - With movement being clunky and awkward as it is, I can't see myself taking that very seriously either.
if you had a bad time in pvp, its because the pve failed to prepare you for facing a ship as good as yours. they have done a disservice to the players by making npcs so completely different then player ships, causing pvp to be so different then the pve.
once you actually learn to pvp though, you will wonder how the pve ever held your interest. theres a lot more good friendly players there there are greefers too. the best way to ease into learning how to pvp, and thus being SO much better at everything in game, is to join the organized PVP channel, instructions here http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=178955
the link in my sig has good information, and a lot of solid builds, they all work great in pve and have good built in synergy with all their components.
And also a big think you for allowing me to serve the community in this way. I'd also like to add that in addition to the mention of the Legacy of Romulus expansion, in the coming months I am hoping to set aside some time to do some Advanced Seminars on the LoR content and how to "tweak" a few traits, builds and gear to reflect these changes and boost your DPS/Healing/Survivability. Please keep an eye on the PvP Boot Camp Forums for any developments on these and any other Boot Camp related events! The forum can be found here: http://pvp-boot.camp.shivtr.com/forums
See you in the queues!

While I do agree with your counter argument, I am going to try to explain the flaw in your logic. As a result of trying to explain the difference between PvP and PVE, you failed to see the overall complaint being made.
Where do you draw the line between 'bad sportsmanship' and 'skill'? I think you may be confusing or overlapping the two concepts. Skill is the ability to master certain obstacles. Good sportsmanship is when an individual shows respect for other players. If you watch the chat box at the end of an stf, you will see people say, "Thanks everyone for all the hard work". Regardless about how a person may feel about another player, the individual will substitute anger with respect. I call that a win.

I have witnessed a great deal over the last few months which has caused me concern for the vitality and long-levity of our beloved PvP community.
PvP in Star Trek Online is what we choose to make of it. And I must emphasize 'choose'. I encourage players to adopt a long-term attitude of growth of PvP in the game. By that I mean the following - we are all acquainted with questions of balance that naturally arise in MMO?s.
Each player needs to hold themselves to their own moral compass. Ask yourself if you are satisfied with an easy kill when it comes at the cost of undermining new player?s involvement and support of PvP.

Look at what is being asked. While you are blaming skill sets and builds, the Boot Camp organizer is asking people to show respect. Drkfrontiers is taking a step forward, so that PvP can evolve into an atmosphere where everyone feels welcome. Why go for the quick kills? Why tag-team one person? Character builds and skill sets can always evolve; however, good sportsmanship can only be taught by example. Some people see no problem with camping on a respawn trigger. Do you think that is fair to new and veteran players?
Skilled players do not need to run in roaming death squads.
What about filling the spawn with Aceton Assimilators in Capture and Hold, then refusing to capture the points so the match lasts forever. Well known PvP fleets are doing this regularly. Not good for the sportsmanship thing.

And the griefers, premades and cheese spam has nothing to do with having a bad time nor the gear disparity...no its that pve taught you wrong.

This has to be a joke right? From what i've seen of opvp, telling people to group up to go and pugstomp is possibly the worst advice you could give them, is not the point of pvp premades, and lets be honest a group made in opvp is a premade, to you know fight other premades? A challenge button exists for these puposes yet the premades, both fleet and opvp made, still hit the queues rather than fighting each other and my conclusion from this act is they don't actually *want* the competition they want the quick easy kill/round. Now i could be wrong here, but from my experience having a bad time in pvp rarely has/had anything to do with what pve taught me and more with the people who claim to want competition.
