For the longest time I flew an Orion Pig Carrier and loved it - but recently I decided to test the waters of a full carrier and bought a Mirror Vu'Qov off the exchange and have found it to be quite fun!
I'd like to get a carrier with similar performance, but don't want to wait to Tier 5 for the shipyard to make it happen. So:
1. Recluse, Jem Dreadnaught or Kar'Fi: Which is a better option, and why (in your opinion)
I find this as a breakdown of these Klingon Carriers pretty true:-
Recluse = Tanking/Healing/Support
Jemmy Dread = DPS
Kar'Fi = Annoying the sh*t of your enemies
Vo'Quv (Standard, Mirror, Fleet) = Its a juggernaut.... enough said
So, in other words, it depends what you want to do. The Recluse doesn't die, but you do not DPS (only tank, heal or support based on your build of course). The Jem'Hadar Dreadnought is probably the best two Hanger Bay Carrier out there for DPS, since the ship itself AND the frigates do damage. The Kar'Fi (until it gets a Fleet version), kind of falls behind, but is an incredibly valuable ship and a good ship for going debuffing and DPSing at the same time, at the cost of a bit of survivability.
I personally fly the Vo'Quv, Recluse and Kar'Fi on three different KDF characters, and I play them all on a regular basis

You are wrong when you say the Recluse does not DPS.
Use the Elite Tholian pets that use APB3 and watch them stack 5-6 APB effects on your target. Combine that with a good DPS setup and you're kicking TRIBBLE left and right PvE-wise. A little harder to pull it off in PvP, but still. . .that universal commander boff station is useful.
I have not captained the Reculse or JHDC, but from what I heard
1) Reculse has a universal commander, but the rest of the layout make it really fcous on one aspect.
2) JDHC is the best carrier, especially when PvE focused, since it have 4-fore/3-aft setup. however, you must also own the JHAS (bug ship) in order to have frigate on it. Otherwise it's just the tankiest ship, and have a good enough turn rate
I do, however, have all 3 KDF carrier:
1) Vo'quv - good balance; good for debuff.
2) Mirror vo'quv - a bit more tankier carrier; in fact is probably play closer to a D'D beamboat Staretgy is to keep healing yourself while using the carrier pets for your main damage, and then pop an occasional GW3
3) Kar'fi - my new main carrier. Highest turn rate of all two-hangar carrier, and if you are more tactical leaning you can put two RCS console and fly it like a battle cruiser. Rely more on science skill for healing, however, as this thing is squishy.
vo'quv - solid choice of both versions, fleet version available. bops make a lot of damage, high yield on quantums just awesome.
kar'fi - wicked sick. hard to master, fun to play. debuffing monster, tac sci and eng(due to frigates) - you can have them all. it has 7 weapons and more tac skills/consoles for pure damage. big drawback - there still no fleet version of this ship.
Depends on PvP or PvE. I only really PvE on carriers so all of this is from that perspective.
Recluse: Commander tac, LTComm sci, duel heavy cannons and grav well, instant fun, just add frigates. The subspace jumper console helps as well.
Kar'fi: debuff and power sucker. I ahve one loaded with poloran turrets, grave well, tyken's rift, energy syphon, the lobi rocket launcher, and the leech console. Way too much fun, and I got 1st place on CE during the event, so it can fight. Again, frigates are fun.
Vo'quv: solid and basic. But the Bird of Prey hanger pets give some fun options.
Mirror Vo'quv: About the same as above, but more tank.
JDHC: I don't have the Jem'Hadar attack pets, yet, but the basic fighters aren't bad. You could go for DHC like the Recluse with the subspace jumper, personally I went with the new nanite beams, and I love it.
So there's my two cents. Personally I find the advantage with all of the above are the firgate pets, they can kill, and do it well.
I have all the carriers and IMHO the recluse is the best.
Voq and mirror voq is missing consoles.
Fleet voq is nice but not customizeable ala boff slots.
I really am trying to like the jem dread. I just feel vulnerable. I don't have the attack ship so I feel this ship needs a frigate.
Recluse is a awesome. Make the uni slot tac and go to town. The issue you may face is the recluse lacks the dps because of the lack the 7th weapon slot.
But the tholian frigates more than make up for it.
I would welcome all the carrier fans to do some runs with my fleet or pop onto our voice server to chat about carriers. Lots of our members fly carriers and we talk builds all the time. Currently, imagine the jhdc that would come out of your worst nightmare, buff it up a bit, and you would get the carrier I currently fly
Shoot me a pm in game @SneyeperFur. The Massive KDF Style is my fleet.
As someone who flew Carrier before re-rolling a KDF Klingon Scientist...the Vo'quv as just a basic ship is an awesome performer in my book with tanking, shield, and hull heals + buffs.
Also, try to get a Hangar Flight Deck DOff and equip them for active space. They give bonus not only to cooldown times but performance as well based on the Carrier Command issued.
But try to keep in mind you will not be front line unless you are a Tac. Carriers are support ships that can afford to run Resilient or Regen Shields with bonus to Cap, Regen, or both! Your carrier pets are to do all the fighting. Weapons should be turrets or beam arrays and if you want kinetic weapons...a torp up front and mine in the back (Plasma and Transphasics do wonders).
I used my Vo'quv to mine the Borg Daily in the KDF for items to sell.:D
It may not be optimal, but damn it's working for me I can just pump out the DPS with it and some BoPs.
I was once DKnight1000, apparently I had taken my own name so now I'm DKnight0001. If I ask you a question it is not an insult but a genuine attempt to understand why. When I insult you I won't be discreet about it, I will be precise and to the point stupid.
