This trait already exists on many of the new Romulan/Reman BOFFS (Plasma Weapon Specialist). It is a ground trait. Are you suggesting a space trait?
I can see how it might be nice to have some kind of bonus, but you forget how homogenous the Federation is... many species use other weapons but Starfleet Ships use Phasers (unless from the future...) so your bonus could logically be applied to MAYBE Tellarites, Vulcans, Humans and Andorians, but all others not so much.
BTW, if your suggestion is to make a space trait which gives a boost to specific weapon types, I'm all for it. Honestly, I like it...
But...
It would seem to be a fly in the ointment of people who have spent large amounts of time and, in money in some cases, to equip antiproton, tetryon, polaron, etc. It also seems to be interesting that you are suggesting a boost to weapon damage when previous threads (of yours) have been about nerfing it, and the skills which boost it.

i am purposing the same bonus to klingon and fed basically.
or maybe feds can get bonus 9.6% hp to shields
As a ground trait? ARE YOU PROPOSING A GROUND TRAIT FOR KLINKS AND FEDS OR A SPACE TRAIT?
Sorry about the caps but you didn't answer this. If a ground trait, I ask again which species do you envisage this working on (stick to a phaser/plasma/disruptor bonus, messing about with shields with all the passives available from reputations is asking for trouble, IMHO)? A Ferengi (whose species uses disruptors) can be in the UFP, should they get the phaser bonus? I don't think so.
Adding in this bonus to ground for Feds and Klinks would do one thing for sure, make ground PvP predictable and boring 90% of the time. Imagine, you join a Ground PvP queue and notice you're up against all humans... simple, switch out your ground shield for one with a phaser res and laugh as they try to kill you with their phasers (which they use because of an arbitrary bonus). Now watch as they laugh at you using the Jem'Hadar MkXI free set because it's Polaron based and you are a klingon who gets a bonus to disruptors so your weapons aren't as effective as if you had chosen a disruptor instead. Everyone would carry one shield for each racial damage type, to offset the bonus, and another 1 or 2 for the rare examples of someone going against type.
Now, if you are suggesting a Space Trait with the bonus, I say I like it. The idea is horrible, but I like it. Why? Because I can earn a free set of whatever weapon my bonus affects and have a marginally better build for little to no effort. Anything which benefits me for no effort, I like. Like free samples in a supermarket. Free cheese? I love cheese, thank you nomnomnom.
A space trait, species bound, which boosts weapon power would spike up prices on the exchange like crazy (see: Efficient Saurians and Leadership Humans post "fix" and pre nerf) for any BOFF with the bonus. If it's stackable, PvP would become a mess of Phasers/Plasma/Disruptors all of a sudden. What of Tetryon, Antiproton and Polaron?
If it is a space trait and you meant character only, you go against the opening up of the pool of traits which has happened with LoR, making every species equally attractive except for a few racial bonuses. Make Humans/Andorians/Vulcans/Tellarites have a phaser bonus and Rigellians/Bolians become less attractive.
I should say, I don't hate the idea of a bonus to weapon type, per se. Just not this version of it (ground or space).

Except that Romulans get 10% Plasma Energy Weapon Damage as a GROUND TRAIT (Satra, Tovan Khev, and Hiven for example). Granted this 10% may be 9.6% rounded up, but it is quoted as 10% on the tooltips in-game. As with previous threads, it helps to use the in-game figures so as to not cause confusion.
Unless.....
Are you saying you've got a Romulan with 9.6% SPACE plasma damage?
Anyway, I've stated why I like the idea in space, and why I think it's a bad idea, so I won't reiterate that. Suffice to say, in its current suggested format, it encourages specialisation and not diversity. I like IDIC.

As usual at this point he does not know what he is talking about, it is a ground trait and a ground trait only.
Anyway, yeah, this does not currently exist as a space trait in game anywhere. As an idea, it does seem kind of interesting, but I can't say I really like it, because it cuts into a player's options to choose whichever damage type goes best with their build. Currently, a torp boat might use Tetryon turrets on the back to help get through shields, a CC or drain sci build might use Polaron, Phaser is handy for PvP, Plasma does some extra bleedthrough damage, Disruptor will boost damage output for the whole team, while Antiproton gives a smaller boost to just the player. A boost that big will outweigh all of that synergy, and result in people almost always using the type they get bonus damage for, because that will be the most important thing.

Sorry, I didn't mean it was appropriate to you, that was a little unclear, wasn't it?

Doesn't work with my kids and won't work here, but what the heck...
Anyhow, back ON TOPIC --
Racial weapons bonuses for space has been suggested before. I distinctly recall Bort telling us why it won't happen, but I don't remember exactly what he said about it.
Feel free to go looking for it.
Other than that, I'm not really opposed to or in favor of the idea.

It is an interesting idea, but it shouldn't be race-specific and should utilize the new trait system.
Let's call it "(Energy type) Starship Weapon Mastery".
For instance, Phaser Starship Weapon Mastery would grant a 5/10% bonus to Phaser damage in space.
There would be one for each Energy Weapon type as well as one for Torpedoes (straight Kinetic) giving us 7 new traits. (Antiproton, Disruptor, Phaser, Plasma, Polaron, Tetryon and Torpedo.)
Any captain would be able to obtain whichever of the Traits they wish, be it by Lockbox Lottery (which I dislike) or Reputation Reward (which simply takes time) or some other means open to all.
Multiples of this Trait should not stack with each other and preferably a Captain would only be able to have one of each type. (Thus skittle enthusiasts would be able to load up on everything at the expense of all their other traits essentially.)

Plenty of choices with fair restrictions.
making a rainbow boat is a really, really bad idea in the first place. they did actually have something similar to that in the original skill system, but it was changed into just energy weapon specialization.
The ultimate freedom of choice is being able to make mistakes with them.
Some people make rainbow boats for fun.
I do remember how it was set up in the original skill system, which is a poor place for specific weapon buffs. The new Trait system certainly has a lot of untapped potential in it where my idea could have merit.
As long as it's not a lockbox lottery all the way down.

I can see what you mean, i guess that could work, i was just referring to the fact that the last time they had something similar, they ended up getting rid of it.

This thread is ironic because he thinks he is trying to increase diversity at endgame. jsut goes to show he loves undermining his own position.
