Does seem a bit short sighted to have a 3 pack that are identical in terms of BOFF layout. What this means of course is that the only one of the three that will see play is the 5 tac console version (sure some ppl will tinker with the other 2, but frankly in a tac slanted boff layout I dont see why you would choose anything other than the one with the five tac consoles).
Dont get me wrong, Im excited about flying this and the various abilities look fun. Just a shame I am buying 2 of the ships solely for the consoles and most likely they will never leave the hangar.
The solution suggested above, making the commander station universal, would seem to be an obvious and easy fix and might even mean people fly all three versions.
The tac console one will not have as much survivability as the other 2, plus, more of the other consoles can be useful depending on the build.
Here's my 2 cents on changes I'd like to see for these ships.
First of all, I think the commander station should change depending on the ships focus. So for example the falchion would have a commander engineering, a Lt tactical, a science tactical + the universal stations.
Then I think that one of the ships should have 2 hangar bays but less weapons. Let's say the falchion got a 4/3 weapon layout and maybe 1 less turn (and maybe other penalties) in exchange for an extra hangar. This would make it more like a normal carrier so that the romulans would at least have one.
Also, maybe the tulwar could get sensor analysis and subsystem targeting in exchange for a fore weapon (or something). Combined with swapping the commander tactical station with the sci station this would give the romulans a C-store science vessel, something they currently lack.
This way the romulans would get a giant escort carrier with lots of pew pew (scimitar), a "normal" carrier similar to the JH dreadnought or the KDF burning doomship (falchion) and a science vessel/carrier, somewhat similar to the federation multi mission exploration ships (tulwar).
Personally I think would be much better than 3 extremely similar ships with slightly different console layouts and universal consoles. I know the odysseys, bortas and MMEs are also very similar to each other, but the federation and KDF have a lot more other ships to choose between, the romulans don't.
Edit: Stealing symetreus69s post (for the formating) and editing it.
Scimitar Class Cmdr, LtCmdr, Lt, Lt, Ens
Falchion Class Cmdr, LtCmdr, Lt, Lt, Ens
- 1 fore weapon. -1 or 2 turnrate. +1 hangar.
Tulwar Class Cmdr, LtCmdr, Lt, Lt, Ens
Sensor Analysis and subsystem targeting. Some sort of penalty to compensate.
I too am a bit dismayed and disappointed by the sameness of the ships in this "3 pack".
I gave quite a bit of feedback during the LOR beta testing on the ships and if I had been in the beta testing of the Scimitar this is what I would have suggested.
Leave the Scimitar as the powerful but also vulnerable ship it turned out as.
Falchion:
Weapons; 4 Fore, 3 Aft
Comm Eng, Lt. Tac, Lt. Sci, Lt. Comm Uni, Ens. Uni
Consoles; 3 Tac, 5 Eng, 2 Sci
2 Hangar Bays
Tulwar:
Weapons; 4 Fore, 2 Aft
Comm Sci, Lt. Tac, Lt. Eng, Lt. Comm Uni, Ens. Uni
What? so expecting a eng and sci version out of a 3 pack is wrong?
There ARE three versions - tactical, science and engineering. Just like in the Vesta, Odyssey and Bortasqu packs.
Think of the Scimitar pack as an analogue to Odyssey or Bortasqu with a tactical edge, just like the Odyssey had an engineering edge and the Vesta a science one.

Yep thats fair I guess. The set console abilities (in particular the secondary shielding) will give it a lot more survivability tho, coupled with battle cloak/temporary full heal from singularity will make make it a bit of a non-issue I suspect. Fact remains with commander tac you probably want to be choosing the ship console layout that compliments a tac build.
That said Im not disputing people will want to try the other versions. I just feel that the tac version is going to be the most playable due to the boff layout. As mentioned at various points in the thread - Commander Universal and everyone is happy (plus there will be a much greater and more interesting selection of viable builds).

Agreed.
No one would be able to complain about the Boff layout if it had a Universal Commander Station.
Has it stands I'll still be picking up the 3 pack because once I max out my Romulan Tac I'll enjoy using the Tac Scimitar with her and can run around screaming Fire the Wave Motion Cannon every 3 mins.
Did anyone else think about using the Subspace Jump Console so you can pull off a Warp Thalaron Pulse Blast on a target that thought it was safe from you?

am i the only one actually happy about NOT having a commander sci or engi?
