Sleepers Question *spoiler if you haven't finished it

As I understand the story, the derelict Borg cube apparently had tangled with the Elachi. Now the borg are all "asleep" and either regenerating or unable to act because of the huge hole in the middle of the ship (which I thought was visually quite cool).

Someone along the way says "The Elachi must have really done a number on them". So I assume the Elachi are responsible for the aforementioned hole.

But how did they do that? Was that explained at any point and I missed it? Do the Elachi do anything else with whatever weapon or power is capable of doing that?

I've finished the Romulan story, but maybe I overlooked something along the way.

Just curious, it was a puzzle I never solved.

Thanks!

well, if you notice. the big hope in the ship is completely spherical.

    so either...

    A. something ripped the borg sphere out of it from the inside somehow. or
B.something exploded inside it making a perfectly spherical radius.

Maybe that's where the Tal Shiar get the sphere that's inside the vault.

That was my impression too. Still some puzzles. That sphere, is that also a similar sphere as in the movie First Contact. At one moment the Enterprice destroys a cube, a sphere escapes and begins the time travel back to first contact.

Also, again, we have a huge scaling issue, the area we see in Sleepers and which could contain a round object, is much smaller than a Borg sphere and also far to small to hold the sphere we see in the Vault.

The sphere in First Contact escaped through a launch bay...which this ship does not have.

Nor does it have and kind of docking clamps or launch tube.
So just because it's a spherical hole does not mean there was a sphere inside that ship, unless the Borg first built a sphere and then built the cube around it without any provision to actually launch it, which is f***ing stupid.
Give then Elachi tendency to use subspace rifts to steal people I'd say they opened a similar rift inside the cube and ripped out a major part of the ship, crippling the ship in the process.

I thought it was more along the lines of the Elachi wanting/needing more bodies to convert for their armies and workers, like those you rescue in some of the other missions, and this was how the Elachi decided to take the Borg because they would not want to be assimilated by the Borg...so they take a huge chunk of their ship complete with thousands of Borg drones and then warp away to avoid being assimilated and then proceed to convert them into their own army at their leisure.

sort of a reverse assimilation if you will...:D
