Cruiser Ship Build

Hey guys,

I'm pretty new to the game, and having just power levelled to 50 I'm now starting to look at the wider game. I've found a fleet and do all of th STF and Nukera missions. I feel tho that I'm not very useful lol, as I'm still pretty new at the game in other MMOs I'm pure DPs but my love for massive star ships beats that hands down so I captain Cruisers, any help on a build from the ground up is useful.
I'm looking for ship, weapons, consoles the lot.

Thanks for your help guys.

A good Cruiser to start with is the Ambassador class from the Temporal Ambassador mission.
It doesnt have overwhelming firepower but it handles damage well and the science abilities its Boff seating allows for can be helpfull to increase your damage by holding your targets or debuffing to lower their defences.
Other than that the Mirror Assault Cruiser is quite good for its price , you can pick it up in the exchange, sometimes for less than 100k EC.
If your in a Fleet you might want to take a look at the Fleet Excelsior once your Fleet has a tier 3 shipyard. It is not a cheap option however but very good.
If your looking for a Zen Store Ship i recommend the regent class cruiser.
It has a lot of firepower and it comes with a wide angle quantum torpedo launcher wich allows you to fire it in a 180 degree arc wich makes broadsiding easier.
The Advanced heavy cruiser retrofit might be interesting for you as well, its quite nimble and powerfull and grants a discount on the fleet version (as does the regent but the fleet assault cruiser is at fleet shipyard tier 5 so it might take some time to get there)

When it comes to Bride officer abilities id recommend Beam Fire at Will II or III for your beam arrays. That will grant you the most bang for PvE.
Other than that be sure to take a tactical team I.
Emergency power to shields, Auxiliary to structural, Revers shield polarity are nice Engineering abilities to have.
If you can afford blue or purple duty officers take 3 technitians and put 2 copies of auxilliary to battery on your ship. It will shorten the cooldown of all your abilities to global cooldown.
Its very good for PvE stuff.
Its use for PvP is somewhat debatable meaning alot of pro and contra opinions exist out there.

Hazard Emitters and Transfer shield strength are very usefull in your science boff slot.

When it comes to weapons i prefer beams. I swear by phasers but the consoles that boost phaser damage can be quite expensive. However blue mki XI or green mk XII should be enough for most situations. Over time youll have some nice loot drops you can sell and save up for better gear and sometimes a lucky drop might include something you need.
Nanite disruptors are comparably cheap at the moment if you want to try out disruptors.
Better stuff is available via the fleet system once you grinded fleetmarks and dilithium.
The Fleet stuff is somwhat better compared to other available weapons but the difference is not earthshaking so dont feel in a hurry to get those.
But compared to the best weapons available on the Exchange fleet weapons are somewhat less expensive/less hard to grind. Its not cheap, just less of a pita.

Field emiters are always nice to have.
Other than that there are some usefull universal consoles out there.
Plasmonic leech is very usefull as it boosts your energylevel (something a beam cruiser needs) and its obtainable on the exchange fro relativly small amounts of EC.
The asimilated console is basicla a must have console that boost crit chance, weaponsenergy and so on and is available through omega reputation at tier I so its not very hard to get.

The nukara reputation system also has a nice console at tier II wich adds 10 % beam accuracy. Nice to have for cruisers.

As for skills make sure you invest some points into combat manouvers and impulse engines .Without that your cruisers will be very sluggish and mobility equals defence in this game.

Make a master plan and work toward it , it will save you alot of errors, alot of ECs and alot of grinding.

Once you dicided wich ships you want to fly in, llok for build recommendations here on the forums and on stoacademy. Ask whqat works and what doesnt work. Alot of helpfull people here but dont get discouraged by occasional trolls and unpolite behavier , its the internet you know ;)

And most importantly , have fun. Its no use to fly the most effective ship ever if all it does is being efficient. Its a game afterall , and half the fun is to make something work for you.
Over time youll learn, adapt and get things rolling.
    Cruisers ftw!

This program, though reasonably normal at times, seems to have a strong affinity to classes belonging to the Cat 2.0 program. Questerius 2.7 will break down on occasion, resulting in garbage and nonsense messages whenever it occurs. Usually a hard reboot or pulling the plug solves the problem when that happens.

That mission only gives a T3 ship now. If you want a T5 version as a new player you have to buy the Fleet version.

    basic cruiser build

3x plasma beam array fore and aft (accx2 from project nightingale fed episodes)
2x quantum torpedo fore and aft
2x neutronium (fed episode a light in the dark undine espisode, KDF gives MK X not MK XI for some reason)
2x RCS (blood of the empire) requires a KDF LT general
as many plasma infusers as you can equip (blood of the empire requires KDF LT general KDF for Mk XI)
2x or more Field Generators (requires romulan fed/kdf aligned at max level bind on equip)

everything you NEED from episode rewards, yeah you can do better if spend Dilithium. But this will give you a good start.

Also, prior to purchasing them on the holodeck, test them on tribble.

The parts I had lying around build? With BOFFs I never retrained?

Edit: Originally said DOFFs, but I'm sure you knew what I meant.

Well, at least he was smart enough to actually mount Quantum TAC consoles to go along with his Quantum Torpedo...

If your going to fly Cruisers as a Fed you "HAVE" to get a Fleet Excelsior.
Best cruiser in the game. Best Lockbox cruiser is perhaps the Galor. I combined them and run 7 sprial wave disruptors and a Nukera mine launcher on my Excelsior.
Aux2batt build and I can tank Crystal Entity on Elite no problem, and survive Alphas from over confident BOP captians in Kerrat. Here is the link to the build: http://skillplanner.stoacademy.com/?build=excelatexcelsior_0

It's the Technicolor we're afraid off.

So, you 'powerleveled' through the game, thusly skipping the meat of it and actually the most fun to be had in Star Trek Online, capped and had learned little about how to set your ship up, now want people to just tell you what you would have likely learned had you just played through normally instead of a mad rush to the end? Just checking.

Plus, there are so many resources available to find ship builds out there I find this thread lazy to the point of being insulting. I could play the game for you if you like, just send me your account info. :D

To tell somebody they must fly ship X is insulting. To say Ship X is the best is bad. To tell them ship X does the most DPS but here's some help for yours is probably the right way to go. I'd say the Assault Refit is similar to the Excelsior and unlocks a fantastic Cruiser Weapon.
