Chimera Heavy destroyer disappointment

I tried the ship with great expectations: it's the veteran ship, it must be one of the greatest ship in sto!
no, it is not...
The special skills, Tachyon Inversion Beams and Phaser Lotus, are good but the cooldown of 5 minutes is too long.
But the big problem is this: only 9 consoles. This ship deserves 10 consoles.
My charal is much better for offense (and this is natural) but also in defense!
I can use 1 more console such as neutronium or field generator.
I estf i have better results with my charal, both in damage and survival.
I'm not happy with this chimera...
What do you think about this?

Edit
this is my build:

Personally, I think it needs another ENG slot.

I very much would also like to see the Chimera booted with fleet stats. That said, the chimera is very different than the Charal with very different strengths.

So I'm just going to point out that I've found that the value of the Chimera isn't in being best at a particular build, but being reasonably good at a lot of different types of builds, some even at the same time. It's one of the few ships than can be retooled for different situations on the fly.

The dynamic tactical system allows you to toggle between more shields and better accuracy (great for shooting down torps and fighters + more crits) and offers two nice powers instead of one. The best part is these two powers don't share a cooldown with each other. I can use the tachyon inversion beam to strip enemy shields, flip into Tac mode and unload phaser lotus only a few seconds later.

I use the Chimera on my engineer and favor a build that is better at handling more chaotic situations. It's not anywhere near top DPS, but it's not toothless, it can heal allies, lock down enemies, strip shields all while taking a pounding from an elite tactical cube.

I love my vet ships. My Fed and KDF toons are practically married to theirs. While I agree it should really have 10 consoles, it's still one of the most dangerous ships in the game. It was one of, if not the first escort that could really run a dual Aux2Batt/Technician Doff setup. Being a "heavy" destroyer, it tanks well for an escort too.

Firstly, torpedo or DBB, not both. Remove one and put a third DHC there.

Secondly, Neutronium is the armor of choice. Swap your armors out for that, and maybe actually swap one out entirely for an RCS console to help with the somewhat poor turn rate.

Here is the Boff setup I use:

    Cmdr Tac: TT1, THY2, CRF2, APO3
    Lt. Cdr Uni (Eng): EPTS1, A2B1, RSP2
    Lt. Eng: EPTA1/EPTE1, A2B1
    Lt. Sci: HE1, TSS2
    Lt. Uni (Eng): ET1

ET1 is a little suboptimal, but there's so much stuff doing shield penetration and DoT that I feel like I need another hull heal besides HE. EPTA I thought would be useful for helping with heals or getting some extra power boost with A2B, but I wind up just using Aux batteries more often than not. They're faster and more powerful. I think I'll start favoring EPTE more.

Also, DDIS is the king of A2B builds. Here is his vet ship setup:

the benefit you are getting from that 4th tac console isnt going to be much, so putting the dts console there and using monotanium, tetraburnium and ablative in your eng slots might be better

Wrong. Tactical consoles stack, so the first +30% is adding as much as the fourth +30% console; they just apply to the base damage, not the cumulative values. Besides, these add damage, tactical console slots are to increase damage.

I'll put it this way - I've never seen a good PvE player post a serious build that has anything other than homogenous tactical console arrangements.

sadly, this ship will never see fleet level stats. as it is a free ship for people who've earned it, it would negate the purposes of the fleet ships if all the vets just ran aorund in their 1000 day ships.

Well, yes and no. There are ships given away for free that have 10 consoles, the Chel Grett and Risian Corvette for instance. Also, these ships are far from "free". You either had to sub for a long time or drop $200-$300 on a LTS. Even so, I'm sure most of us with access to it wouldn't have a problem buying 1 ship module to purchase a Fleet version were one available. Also, it's a good ship but far from being the best ship for all purposes and play styles. The closest thing to that is the JHAS, and even that's really just the "best escort". Plenty of veterans would opt to fly other ships even if a 10-console Fleet Chimera was available.

the "purpose" of the fleet ships is additional revenue.
player basically ripped off twice. first i buy a z-store ship, second i need to invest a lot more to get better version of it. in regards of romulans even trice, for a refit version to get console set.
of course for a pure f2p game its an acceptable business model (more or less).

BUT! c'mon people, 1000 day subscription or lifetimer is investment enough for at least one high-end ship.
it really deserves the stats on the par with fleet ships. 10 consoles, fleet modifiers.
and shorter cooldown on special abilities, like 2-3 minutes. or make the recharge boost of them depends on weapon/shield power just like hangar pets depend on aux so they do recharge after 2-3 minutes if powerlevel is like 100-125.

however my biggest concern is that chimera kinda stuck to use phaser weapons to get the most from lotus. phaser proc being useful in pvp is nearly pointless in pve.
i know, its canon. but sadly there are no phaser based hybrid weapons, only "phased" which use other damage type.
klingon counterpart use disruptors, which are available in various kinds, pure and mixed type.
thats why i do fly peghqu but not chimera.

it's a fed vessel. hell, look at kumari wing cannons and Gal-X lance. both phaser. why would the federation make any other energy type for their special weapons. fed's are phaser only in canon. yes some people thing its gimped, but remember, the big point of the chimera is the dual modes.

Thanks for the answers, but i think that the chimera isn't a really veteran ship. C store ship are better.
And about 10 consoles... we get it with the FREE risa corvette.

its not a fleet ship level ship, just retrofit or normal tier 5 level. eventually there will proboly be a fleet version, sans console. you will have t be a vetran to get that console

its a lack luster escort with an amazing station setup. you can run those cruiser style 2 AtB builds on it, and then it becomes quite competitive.

well, kumari wing cannons make HUGE apha strike with skills. the lance probably too.
lotus is hardly a alpha strike weapon, its just just additional FAW with veeeery long cd.
still pure phaser setup will be substantially weaker then hybrid disruptors.
now if there would be hybrid phasers, not only "phased" other kinds of weapons then it would be complete different thing.
like polarized phasers for example. really, there are phased polarons, why not other way around?

You can run a dual copy Aux2Bat on this ship, which gives you cooldown on abilites as if you had two copies. This basically gives the ship two tactical commanders along with the ability of keeping EPtW3 up all the time. I don't own it, but I think it's amazing.

The best case scenario with the lotus is when there's only one target in range, all the hits will go to that one target. I routinely do this when attacking gates in STFs. Fully buffed and focused all on one target, it's brutal. It's rare to get such a situation in PvP, but if somebody breaks off from the pack you can teach them a hard lesson.

Where and when did this piece of misinformation spawn? Nothing beats TT, EptS and Aux2SIF on system cooldowns, or rapid RSP, TSS and Haz Emitters, or constantly flooded shielded power with at no weapons expense...

    Yeah, survivability....

Alternatively, you can switch to EPtS 3. If you equip a M.A.C.O. shield or a plasmonic leech console, you'll always have a little auxiliary power to pop a hazard emitter or transfer shield strength, no matter if you have used an Aux2Bat just before. Thanks to Aux2Bat, you'll have effectively two copies of those abilites as well.

And that little difference in auxiliary power won't help you survive the things that get you killed in this game. You'll just last a second longer.

There will most likely be an upgraded version of both ships available at some time in the future.
The DEV blog that introduced us to them

    http://sto.perfectworld.com/blog/?p=706571

clearly states these are prototype ships...just like the free Oddy and Borty were listed as prototypes. And we did get the non-prototype versions later as C-Store ships. Otherwise there would have been no point of even putting it into the actual shipnames. They could have just left it in the description.

*EDIT: I'd like to add I don't think Vet ships should be better than other ships and I'm very happy with mine ATM, of course a fleet-level version won't hurt and I won't mind paying FSMs for it*

I personally think the extra console should be science to support it's versatility but I could also see an engineering console being put on. If a fleet version follows the stat increases of other ships, we can expect something around:

    Hull: 38000
    Shield Modifier: 1.0

    Consoles: 4 Tac, 3, Sci, 3 Eng
    -or-
    Consoles: 4 Tac, 2 Sci, 4 Eng

There are ways of dealing with that. There's a lock out in the dilithium store that prevents people who don't own lock box ships from buying additional specialized weapons. It should be no more difficult to prevent people who aren't qualified for the Chimera to be prevented from buying it's Fleet variant.

Give Cryptic a little credit, they do get a few things right.

So I wanted to pose the question:

If a fleet version of the Chimera/Peghqu'/Rom vet ship was released via the fleet shipyard for 1 module + 20,000 fc, would you buy it?

It would still be exclusive to lifetime/1000-day vets, and be priced similar to a fleet version of an already owned C-Store ship.

Peghqu? Maybe. Chim/Rom? Not a chance. Superior options already exist for the Roms (Valdore/Dhelan), and the Chim is just too hideous for me to fly.
