who had the bright idea to make this thing NOT reload while i swap to the other weapon slot?
any weapon in STO had a cooldown so far, and when you swap weapons, that have long cooldowns, they just keep ticking away.
but this mechanic with the clip or load (how do we call that anyway?) is NOT reloading while holstered.
result = i empty the load, swap to the other weapon so i can keep doing damage
(it is not like the Salt Vampires would just stop coming at me... can't just stop shooting),
so i can't use the Flamethrower anymore until i am out of combat for a second or two...? [not happening, in minetrap at least]
i wouldn't mind if it could shoot 3 second bursts and then have a 1 second cooldown,
in a map like minetrap i will always empty the clip and often not even kill the one enemy i am shooting with that one load.
i don't notice any real DoT either, no burning FX and the salt vampires clearly don't panic or run away... they are not burning up on their own... no plasma fire on the ground when i just spray the ground (OMG that would be Physics you guys! We can only do very low, very balanced NUMB3RS in an MMO!)... so i got a flamethrower and nothing really happens.
the visuals and everything are nice, but that is about it...
not a very user-friendly weapon, not a very useful weapon.
in fact the same goes for those new Romulan Weapons, as soon as i could i started using KDF disruptors with the traditional wait for cooldown / shoot, swap, wait for cooldown / shoot, swap wait for cooldown tactics...
and the load/clip mechanic also is working weird with auto fire... it just wont stop shooting with some weapons / in some situations.
i so would like at least on occasion to get away from the default Sniper/Pulswave setup that is simply THE BEST in STO.
anybody else got amy opinions on that thing?

meh, don't understand all this negativity...it's not all taht great and the not reloading issue is dumb, no doubt, but it is a viable weapon imho. short range decent dps, just not what one expects from a plasma thrower.
i like the mechanic though, with the fuel depleting etc...
