TNG Season 3 Episode 15, yesterdays enterprise Star date 53625.2, Jean-Luc and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise-D encounter a temporal rift, which the Enterprise-C comes out of making a temporal shift. Near the end of this episode is one of the reasons Piccard is the captain of the Federation Flagship. While Enterprise-C is making its way tword the rift to go to their own time, the Enterprise-D is tasked with holding off three Klingon battleships. The Enterprise-D takes heavy damage, and Commander William Riker Is killed by a piece of glass from his panel slicing his throat. Piccard, with that stern face of his, says out loud, "that will be the death" right before leaping over the console and taking Commander arikers position. This is what it means to be a captain. Even in the distorted timeline Commander Riker and Captain Piccard were friends I'm sure, but instead of grieving or thinking someone else should take the tac. console he took charge of his ship and stepped in. This is why that episode is my favorite. It shows the true meaning of being a Federation Captain. We should all take a page from Pi cards book and strive to do as well as he did.

Really hard question. I guess if I had to be stuck on a deserted island and could only take one episode with me, it would be Voyager's "Message in a Bottle."

Why? 2 reasons: MVAM Promy introduction and Andy **** as the "upgraded" EMH ;)

Of course there are dozens of others that I couldn't live with out, from all of the series.

    Cheers,

    Brandon =/\=

I don't know how to answer this question without just making a huge list. Even narrowing it down to one favourite episode per series feels kinda crazy.

So I guess I'll kneejerk and say In the Pale Moonlight for now. Or maybe City on the Edge of Forever. Or Yesterday's Enterprise. Or... uh, nevermind.

I always thought that bit of casting was especially hilarious coming off of Newsradio. Andy D*ck played the EMH pretty much exactly the same way he played Matthew.
    Relax.

    In the Pale Moonlight.

The one time I remember being genuinely surprised by a Trek episode.

It's not an original choice, but this would also be mine.

What an amazing episode. (I can live with it.....)

IMO - Best episode of Star Trek made (from any of the series); because it really does do a good job of encapsulating the best ideals of what 'Star Trek' was about concept wise:

From TOS - "The Corbomite Maneuver"
Formerly known as Armsman from June 2008 to June 20, 2012

    TOS's "Mirror, Mirror"
    TNG's "The Inner Light"
    VOY's "Scorpion"
    DS9's "In the Pale Moonlight"
    ENT's "Demons/Terra Prime"

    Not necessarily in that order.

"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them."
