Moving on from the Qin

I currently fly a Qin in my 50 tac officers and I just began running group pve content. Needless to say I love the Qin, but I have little to compare against since I have mostly flown raptors over the heavy stuff. So not much experience on my end.

Now I am looking to see what direction to grow into. I thought perhaps the fleet Qin may be something to begin working to. However from what I have read on the forums so far it seems that it is the Fleet Tor'Khat that is a beast when flown well. Not sure if I want to go super heavy like the carriers or the Bortasqu.

So what is a good step up from where I am?

Also... it seems from looking over the weapon types antiproton can be vicious with a crit build. However plasma has a set bonus and a science console. What would be an efficient way to go?

Sounds like you're using the last free Raptor so buying the Mirror Qin is the next 1up as mentioned above.
From there though, if you're feeling adventurous, give the Mirror Vor'cha a try.
It doesn't have the Tac Boff stations of the Qin but can take some punishment.
    Fly it like an escort.
    NO to ARC

Been there done that, decided on the Guramba. To me is the perfect ship, even with the late plethora of ships that came lately it i keep coming back to it. Now with the Fleet version on the horizon it looks even better. Has slightly less hull then the Qin, and the Qin TAC Ensign is switched to ENG, little better shield mod and rest is the same. Try it :)

If you don't particularly need the cloak, and don't mind flying something escort-level that's not a raptor. . .the Fleet Scourge is an excellent destroyer. Good turnrate and boff layout, and decent shield-tanking for an escort-level ship.

Does it have the weird pivot point of the Qin? Or is that pivot point shared with all Raptors?

I still have the Qin, but it's handling was "weird" for my tastes, and shelved the poor bird.

If it has the weird pivot point, it's not noticeable. The Somraw is shorter than most raptors, and that mostly takes care of the problem.

    Another vote for the Gumby.

Compared to a Mirror Qin, you trade the cloak for siege mode/javelin. The siege mode/javelin is likely the best "lance" in the game (1 minute cooldown? Yes please!), and doesn't take a console slot. So, while the Gumby is only a 9 console ship, it has abilities worthy of any fed 10 console ship.

That, and she has the "patrol escort" boff layout. No dangling tac ensign. Perfect ship to load up with 4xElite Fleet DHC and just crush things PvE.

I have heard that she performs less then you would expect in PvP, but I don't PvP so she has always treated me quite well.
I once again match my character. Behold the power of PINK!
