Expertise Points

It seems that the brick wall in the rep system all along has been expertise points. This is especially bad for my newer captains... especially KDF.

STFs give little expertise points, Tau Dewa Patrols don't give enough, and 20 duty officer missions give just enough to advance ONE reputation project. Catching elusive Mirror Universe events helps, and Federation system patrols are almost as good. The problem is, whenever you train Boffs, expertise points.

I have one officer that has no problem, and that is due to solid duty officer ranking long before the rep system.

Besides reputation projects, many starbase, embassy, and probably holding advancement will suck expertise points. I suspect if I had only a couple of toons, this wouldn't be as big a problem. I guess I should attend an alt-a-holics anonymous meeting, and get a life. :D

I was low on expertise...for a day or two after starting my Romulan toon. Leveling up boffs ate up the output of the early plot missions.

By the time I was level 50 and could start on the reps, I had so much built up I never bothered to even look at the number. Right now, it says I have over 600k to spare. Despite doing all reputations at full speed. Both my older toons have untold millions of the stuff.

Expertise comes from everywhere. You just need to play the game.

the rep system eat a lot of this stuff and there is no viable way to gather XP fast enough and also keep farming marks

    You kidding?

I have ~7,000,000 Expertise. That's waaaay to much for what I'm handling.

i think the problem only exists for new toons...not one you played for years.

anyway...one viable way is to replay or continue story missions. for me that worked.
    the other is mirror event.
    Go pro or go home

For new toons, I now hit the exchange and buy a blue-quality Expertise Consultant- pretty cheap and a 3% bonus. Not a lot, but every bit helps.

Mirror Invasion will get you over 100k EXP, pretty good for an hour of work

DOFF assignments also return EXP, so do a lot of little missions and you'll have a constant stream of EXP

I am sure that if I didn't have 23 toons, expertise would be no problem.

I ended up having an expertise problem, and I ended up deleting my KDF avatar.

I might end up deleting my Romulan avatar as well.

    I do not know.

Once a toon hits 50 you'll start getting more Expertise than you'll know what to do with in pretty short order. Of my 4 %oies (soon to be 5 as my Rom is Lvl 44) - I have 1 million+ on most; and on my original character (started at launch in 2009) - I have 10 million+.

Expertise is only an issue as you level up.

Red Alerts give good XP if you hang out in sectors where they're easier to get into (IE not Sirius or Tau Dewa), as do most queued things excluding (E)STFs proper.

I DOff for expertise... some missions award 10s of thousands on crits. I usually do many 30min to 2hr missions when I'm home, and finish it off with 20hr missions before I go to sleep... by the time I get home from work the next day, theyre all done, and I get tons of exp...not too bad if you keep up the doffing :-)

Once you get to VA you will be rolling in it especially if you do the dailies. All the skill points listed get converted to expertise. This is on top of what you get for killing things.

I've been woking through my BOFFs getting rid of some, comissioning new ones and skilling them up and retraining others. On top on this I have finished tier 5 Rommy rep and I still have close to three million points left. I haven't been "hunting" or grinding them if I had I would have a lot more this just from casual play.
