Need help to spec for dps

strykerhawke86strykerhawke86 Member Posts: 27 Arc User
I'm looking for some help with building and spec for dps. I have a Heavy Escort Carrier with quad cannons. I'm a tac Vice Admiral. I've mostly just played casually but I'm wanting to do more STF missions.

I'm looking to respec my skills and trains, so any pointers? my current equipment and skill tree are in the link below. I'd like to know what boff and doff to use as well.

The only two space sets i have are Breen and Jem'Hadar.

Thanks for any help y'all can give, I appreciate it.

    Here we go:

    Equipment
Weapons: Pick a weapon type and stick with it, currently your weapon types are split between Phaser, Plasma, and Polaron. (Phased Polarons do Polaron damage.)
I would suggest going with Rom Plasma if you want more DPS, though the Tac consoles for it are expensive.
Also slap a torpedo on the front. Torpedo's are handy.

For Shield/Deflector/Engines either Breen or Jem Hadar are good, though you may want to invest in a good Positron Deflector instead of the sets if you don't want the 3 piece set bonus. It will help with survivability.

Consoles: Tac Consoles should be reserved for weapon damage so here's how I would rearrange what you already have:

Eng Consoles: Zero Point Energy Console, Tachyokinetic Converter, Ablative Hull Armor Mk XI
Sci Consoles: Field Generator Mk XI, Something to replace the Emitter (Emitter is fine for now.)
Tac Consoles: 4 of whatever damage type you end up choosing.

    Bridge Officer Abilities
You currently have a lot of abilities that you can't use because you lack the weapons for them, so here's a rework.

Cmdr. Tactical: Either High Yield Torpedo or Torpedo Spread I/ Cannon Scatter Volley I, Cannon Rapid Fire II, Attack Pattern: Omega or Beta III
Lt. Tactical: Tactical Team I, Cannon Rapid Fire I.
    Ens. Tactical: Tactical Team I

Lt. Cmdr. Engineer: EP to Shields I, EP to Shields II, Reverse Shield Polarity II

Lt. Science: Hazard Emitters I, Transfer Shield Strength II
or alternatively: Polarize Hull I, Hazard Emitters II.

Your Duty Officers should enhance what your Bridge Officers do. Of note:
If you choose to go for AP:Omega an Attack Pattern Conn Officer is handy.
Cannon Special Ability Energy Weapon Officers are very helpful since you have a lot of cannon abilities, but no more than 2 with the above setup.
If you decide on a Tactical Team Conn Officer you can swap out one of the above Tac Teams for another damaging ability.
It's currently easy to get a Very Rare Projectile Weapons Officer from the Nimbus Chain so there's no reason not to slot him if you don't have anything else to put there.

    Skill Tree
You've got a lot of 9 points put in where you don't necessarily need to. The Rule of Thumb is to only put 9 in skills you 100% know you're going to get the most out of. (Such as Energy Weapons Training, Starship Maneuvers & Starship Targeting Systems.)

Here's a general build to look at that snags everything you need and leaves a good 30,000 skill points left for you to spend however you want.
Ignore the fact that Ground is setup for Engineer and focus on the points spent. About the only thing I would change for your current ground setup would be to put a bit more in Willpower and Combat Armor.

    General Advice
Regardless of anything else however, if you adjust your equipment and Bridge Officers a bit then you should be able to do STF's with no problems. Use the Attack preset for your power levels (100/50/25/25) as much as possible.
For Elite STF's (if you ever want to do them) you'll want to learn the usual tactics for doing them and hopefully have practiced using your abilities.

@Yargomesh: Thanks for the tips dude. They've been a real help. I keep experimenting with both the Rom plasma cannons and Dis.

@Wenom4: thanks for the build, but i don't own and of the sets other than Breen and Jemhadar. I did just recently gain the Remen space set.
