Hi

Ive Got a eng Char and love to play the Carriers and use the Vo'quv mirror for a long time now, I fell i need a change so i got myself a Karf'fi Carrier.

I love the speed (It show after flying a brick for so long) but do not know what the best setup would be i have 2 Advanced Fer'Jai Frigate and 2 Advanced Orion Slavers as hangers so can swap between the 2 if needed.

I use it for STF's Mainly and PvE, Have not tryed the PvP yet but will try sometime.

Any Help for a Noob please :confused::P

Personally, I'd recommend having several different hangars until you can get your hands on two hangars of Elite Scorpions. The Fer'Jai frigates are extremely effective, but sometimes you'll find that they don't work for the situation. These days, I carry two hangars of Fer'Jai's, two hangars of S'Kuls, and a wing of Slavers in my inventory at all times. It gives me the ability to change my hangars and tactics to suit the situation.

Not to say it isn't viable but Engineering is the weakest class to use with the Kar'fi, by far in my opinion the Frigates are the best part of the ship.

They aren't the best dps choice but they still do some nice damage and do some mean support effects.

Well, Engineers can compensate somewhat for the slightly weaker tanking capabilities of the Kar'fi (especially if you wanna throw a tractor beam on the thing or something), so there's that.

    Why is this?

I've flown a Kar'fi with all 3 Careers, I'd have to say the Engineer is the strongest. The Kar'fi is a DPS machine w/ extremely effective frigates, arguably the most maneuverable true carrier in the game. It's biggest failing is the fact it cannot out tank the other carriers that exist. (Although the Jem Dreadnaught might be worse, I've not flown one... so I can't say). RSF, EPS, and MW are only boons that help it survive and keep the damage coming.

Not to say it's not worth flying on any other career, I had different builds for each toon. Sadly this beast doesn't have a Fleet version yet. Otherwise all my KDF would be getting respecs

Speaking as an Eng in a Kar'Fi, its a heck of a lot of fun. Faster than other carriers, and your Eng skills will keep it in one piece. Good combo in my book! I've been an Eng in a Kar'Fi for well over two years now, and I've never looked back!

Frigates do rock, but I now have 1 frigate and 1 Elite Scorpion. Works very very well indeed. Frigates won't get wiped out by a Beam Fire at Will, and have all kinds of warheads flying around. Save up and get the purple ones from the Dilithium Store. Totally worth it.

If you group up a lot for STFs then the Kar'Fi can be tricked out as a mean power-drain boat, which will make wiping out tactical cubes and gateways much easier, as you pull their teeth.

The Kar'Fi is indeed the most defensively weakest carrier in the game. The JHDC you mentioned has a LtCdr ENG, Lt Universal stations, as well as 4 ENG Console slots. But the Kar'Fi can maneuver best of all carriers, and positioning and turning has defensive benefits in their own ways.

    This is my build

I like the Advanced Fer'jai frigates and I'm probably going to get elite fleet Fer'jais in about 4 weeks when my fleet gets T5 science. In my opinion, the frigate hangars like the BoPs and Fer'jais are more effective than fighters. With that said, I have 2 hangars of adv. slavers but I don't like how inefficient they are at getting contraband, EC, and items. Plus, theres nothing that says "TRIBBLE you" to that EPtE BS than a HY2 tricobalt torp disabling an enemy's engines and sucking them back into my grav well.

Your right about eng being the weakest class, but one nitch ship for a Eng is a Kar'fi

The CC and Extra Dps it can spit out makes it a target on the battle field. A tact or sci could not field the same survivability as a Eng in a Carrier. Being the guy with a target on his back survivability is greatly appreciated. This gives us some nice time to change the battle field into our favor.

    As a side note
MW and hull heal take into account crew giving a Eng Karfi huge hull heals

I run a MAX out energy drain Kar'fi. As a Eng in pvp I can handle up to 3 ship and not panic,
Systematically I have a chance of fully shutting them down
    No movement
turning and unleashing 3 DHC 1 Dual Beam and 3 turret of phasedpolaron furry.

    Shut down, turn and destroy.

No other ship can do this and it gives a unique build to the Karfi .

There are far better op builds these days than drain boats but the classic 120 - 0. Shocker to a annoy escort is fun =).

Elite interceptors cant wait, Fleets so close

I have never once in 2 yrs with a Kar'fi thought I wish I was a tact or sci in my Kar'fi.

You are a real dreadnought as a Eng Kar'fi....

Also Fleet Kar'fi will be out soon it was in a geko dev post.

Hehe, the Kar'Fi is the ship that keeps making me want to go back to my KDF.

I found, as a Tac, the best way to handle the Kar'Fi was to treat her like a very heavy escort. That means Borg set to help with survivability, DHCs and an RCS generator to help you bring them to bear (even better since LoR) and a "A dead enemy does no damage to me" philosophy.

I used to swear by my Fer'Jai, but after very careful monitoring and micro managing, I have come to really dig my S'Kuls. They are spiky, but when they actually decide to suicide bomb something its great damage.

Mauraders are great for anything that doesn't clear boarding parties. They are probly the most effective pet in the game, and quite under rated. Most people don't realize that unlike Boarding Party the shuttles stick around and do piddly DPS while they wait for their cooldown to reset so they can do it again (tho, most times it is wiser to "spam" them to get them to reset their cooldown, but different situations call for different tactics...)

I find I like the idea of slavers more then the reality. I run them when I am doing dailies or milk runs, but as a retired raider I cringe inside when I decide to use something less then optimal. They really do not steal often enough to warrant the DPS loss, but I do like the concept. Maybe the elites will be worth it...

Interceptors are the great secret. So few people know about them, and they are amazing. I always giggled when people complained about the Danubes because Interceptors are worse... oh well... and the Elites get tractors, too? Yummy!

I wish I could trade my tachyon drones for anything else. They are decent when they are up, but they die way too fast and the cooldown is too long. Just not worth the opportunity cost in losing another pet to slot them.

Of course... Elite scorpions > all at the moment... at least before the t5 starbase level. Unless there was a major buff I missed, when I tested the elite tholian fighters they were a DPS loss (tho I'm sure if you get the perfect AE situation they may pull ahead) and while I do not have KDF t5 pets yet, every Federation t5 pet under-performed when compared to a scorpion. (honorable mention to Peregrines, which were very close and had the advantage of being more precise, and the stalkers when micro-managed to perfect precision do decent damage if you constant alpha strike them, but less then the other 2 by far... but the debuffs are nice... personal preference or value judgement per encounter. I do not have any of the lobi carriers to test the exclusive pets. Yellowstones warp plasma is gimmicky as hell, it rarely ever hits anything)

That said, KDF elite pets seem a cut above, but I do not have them yet to parse and tell you for sure.

Elite Scorpions are great in PVE. But in PVP, they're weak. The abundance of Grav Wells, AOE attacks like FAW and CSV mean that the dozen plasma torpedoes that they spew out altogether are taken out in a blink of an eye.

I love it when someone breaks them out in PVP, alongside the Rom Rep Plasma Torpedo launcher, spewing out a wall of Plasma Torpedoes. 1 AOE attack later, and they're all gone. They think players are like NPCs that sit there and take all the shots.

Yeah, that's where the Peregrines/KDFFightersIForgetTheNameOf will come in handy. The Peregrines are right up there with the Scorps, but you don't need to deal with the hassle of high yield plasma torps.

I've been playing more with my Stalkers, and they are actually pretty devastating when you start to get used to making them do burst attacks. My DPS drops, but only by like 1k, and shield stripping doesn't show in logs... And not having shields there to absorb "useless" DPS... I'm thinking they might be superior to Scorps in the right situations and in the right hands... At least I feel like I can run them now without feeling like a complete joke... Stalkers flat out sucked at the advanced level of pets.

I suppose I've wandered way off topic, being as this is in the KDF shipyards... Sorry for that... Someday I'll actually get to test the KDF versions...
