Can't place devices in power tray

I am sorry if this seems too "noob"ish, but, for several months, I have not been able to place shields, hypos, etc., in my tray. I have to open my character, use the item, and then die, because I took too long to restore my shields, etc. I can't find any other threads about this, so, a little help...?

    It's a little convoluted in this game.

    You have to open up your character screen, and slot a device into one of your four device slots.

    Then you have to open up your Abilities window, and drag the item from there into your action bar.

    Also, press "P" to bring up your power tray. Make sure to uncheck the lock powertray so you can slot things on your powertray. After you equip your device of course.

    LoL, this was confusing to me when i first started playing STO, but Lordvalecortez is correct.
    When you press P your abilities sheet will pop up and from there you can click and drag your abilities into your skills tray. Also if you right click and drag you can move your abilities in your tray to your liking.

    I thank you for the help. I have never had this problem before, and it has been going on, it seems for a few weeks. I can't drag an item my character is carrying into the tray. It's not locked. There is plenty of space, and I can press "U", and access items from there. Not an efficient use of time when drones are on top of you, though. It is possible that I have suffered a debilitating brain injury, and have forgotten something obvious, but I don't think that is the case. If no one else has experienced this before, I guess the next stop is a cat scan.

    If you have empty space on your power bar, press U and open your Status screen, left click on the item in question and drag it toward the empty space on the tray. When you release that item slot will now be bout to that tray space regardless of whether you change it to hypos or shield charges or whatever.
