In STF's, it very likely can outdamage escorts given that it can equip four DHC and four turrets and most STF targets are not very mobile, so it is facile to bring the weapons to bear.
Given the battle cloak, it could be interesting in PvP. You could equip it with cannons or even DHC/DBB and use it as an alpha strike, then cloak when your target gets out of your firing arc. I am uncertain if anyone could do that effectively, but it certainly is an advantage over a Galaxy-X or the various Klingon battle cruisers which get stuck firing turrets once their target outflanks them.
Most people I see using it in ESTF are using beams. With spheres on crack these days - if you have DBB or DHC you are going to be pretty useless for awhile in ISE.
no-one will seriously consider this ship for pvp - you almost never see the other flying bricks in pvp either: the Bortas
Beautiful ship the D'Deridex but those other designs that cryptic made ... dunno, they miss the simple elegance and in almost all cases the nose designs that make romulan ships .... feel ... romulan. (Although this is my own subjective opinion and i dont claim to be talking for the rest of the community) That is all. When i turned Subadmiral 1 ingame the 3 choices that were available were just ... aweful ... absolutely aweful.
the d'dx refit is good ,but some1 get me a T5 t'liss now that'll compete well with all the escorts and it'll look so retro that it'll be popular too......the d'dx does need a base turn of like 7 or 8 to be viable in most pvp & pve maps ( just my opinion tho)

That's because this is Escorts Online.
Beams are what these ships are about. They're slow-turning, damage-tanking cruisers. They might be able to mount cannons, but you probably should't unless you really want to get taken roughly from behind.
You're just a machine. And machines can be broken.
Hmmmm... no D'Ds in PvP you say? I've seen quite a few. Mostly they are in there as support/CC. The projected singularity is great for pulling ships out of cloak and with almost every Rom ship carrying a battle cloak, that can be a nice addition to the arsenal. Don't forget turn rate is also affected by engine power. When you go put all your power to shields and weapons with 15 points sitting in engines it's now wonder your ship is slow. The reason engi captains are better suited to cruisers is because they can get their power levels pretty close to 100 across the board (without using Aux to Bat builds). I'm flying the T5 Dehlan right now and with full power to engines, 1 RCS console, APO3, and battle cloak I got it to a 90 turn rate; I probably couldn't do that with my D'D but I could probably get it to 40-50ish. Obviously I don't play with all power to engines, but it gives you an idea of what it looks like when engis get all their power levels close to max.
People have been complaining about the low turn rates of cruisers since the beginning of this game. They are meant to be a separate class from escorts. It would be OP if you could get a D'D to the same turn rate as an escort without jumping through a lot of hoops because it has extra weapon slots and the ability to equip cannons, so it could out DPS the escorts and no one would ever play anything but cruisers (also because they are difficult to kill). I can only get 7k dps in my D'D using beams. Oh no! That's not near enough to kill borgs or players (in PvP)! Clearly I need my 9k DPS escort to do it because it does so much more damage. For the record I have blown up borg way faster than other puggers who were flying escort tac ships.
Best example:
Enter pug. It's me (an engi) and 4 tac captains. I am in a Sovereign refit with beams. They are all in T5 escorts with cannons equipped. I start on gate with one other captain. The other 3 rush off to deal with cube for whatever reason (at the end of Infected). The one tac captain and I finish the gate and the other 3 still haven't gotten the cube below 75% health. Within 30 seconds of joining the fight, my cruiser had pulled aggro from the cube even with a threat decreasing console on it. Not one of the other captains ever managed to pull aggro away and I did not use any threat building attacks.
No idea what half of you noobs are talking about on here with this ship saying its TRIBBLE.. Yes its good with beams, however if you put some skill and consoles into it, its very very good with cannons. I have the retrofit version and the fleet version. Retrofit has beams, and its ok.. The fleet version I went all out and put on the new Nanite Disruptor DHC mk xii and turrets. Using an mk xii RCS, the helmsman trait, and the temporal console that gives a turn rate bonus from the lobi store. In KSE and ISE, My fleet D'deridex floats like a butterfly and stings like my pee! :P
Learn your firing arcs.. learn how to fly your ship.. Sometimes its quicker to back up and turn to bring your target into your firing arc. You also turn faster if your throttle is set to half instead of full if you are flying at something.. I've had a lot of experience of using the jem hadar dread with cannons, so flying the d'deridex with cannons is a piece of cake.
Finally, the longer a ship is, the more centripetal force is generated near the outer hull and the more power the inertial dampeners need to counteract it. My suspicious is that the Enterprise D can rotate just about as quickly as the Defiant (and we saw it a couple of times on the show), but that it requires massive amounts of energy to be diverted to the structural integrity and internal dampeners, so it is only used when absolutely necessary. Since the ship was not designed with a need to turn rapidly as a combat maneuver given the placement of its weapons (whereas a shuttlecraft or the Defiant was), and since such a maneuver might dramatically reduce shield and weapons power, rapid axial turns are only used when absolutely necessary on large ships.
So in other words, the Enterprise-D needs to use Auxiliary to Dampeners in order to turn quickly.:D
I'm going to look into playing with one of these at teir 5 when my second Rom reaches max rank. Will comment more on the subject then. Do admit I was taken back when i got it while leveling, it is a tank rather that an attack craft like most Rom ships. But yes its no BBBB(Big Beautiful Blue Brick) like the Caitian Atrox Carrier lets be some what restrained, it is a stealthing tank and i'm guessing thats what they wanted for balance and variety, but again i'll give a more rounded response after playing a bit at teir 5, but am enjoying my fleet Dhelan Warbird, will be good to compare.
But I, being poor, have only my dreams; I have spread my dreams under your feet, Tread softly because you tread on my dreams
W.B. Yeats Lifer since beta its never been so good! So now can everyone chill this game is going in the right direction :P
If they can make a ship go from a standstill to warp speed without it getting crushed llike an empty soda can when a steam roller runs it over then there is no reason they cannot make a large ship turn like an F 16. but for gameplay less turn to make it fit a role works... But turn as bad as my Vo'quv Something seriously wrong there.
Now for having the first 3 free ships excluding the starter ship being only 1 ship for all 3 class doesnt make any sense. If it is a limitation on the amount of useable Romulan ships then why not make a variant of the 3 ships. The D'd could have a tac and sci version. Tac version could have allot less hull but reasonable turn rate, allow normal tac weapon setups and BOFF/console layout for tac. Sci someplace in between that and the engi version. Reason for better turn but weaker hull is because allot of extra armor was removed to increase its agility and allot of structure was removed and replaced with larger thrusters. Sci had allot of structure replaced with science equipment and larger thrusters than the engi, but smaller than a tac's. Same could be done with the other 2 but in reverse. More was added to make them fit a role better, like more armor and smaller thrusters for the engi.
The fleet and C-store should ofcourse be the engineer version.
For new players who chose romulan as the first character having one class of ships and then bam into another class does not allow them to learn how to use the endgame ship. An engineer should have a cruiser available at level 10, same with a sci, they should have a science vessel. Not having the ships available is just a bad design choice and should never have gotten aproval to implement.

Can someone please tell me what free ships are available to lvl 30 Romulan? the only free ships I see are lvl 30 Fed ships I purchased from the z store for my Fed character.
I agree with rickskynight. A lot of people fly their ships in a two dimension plane. So much like Khan. I fly any low turn rate ships above or below my targets.
I can turn any large ship on a dime by using reverse impulse + Evasive Maneuvers. That's only if my stern torpedo spread III did not take care of any leftover enemies already.
If I am using cannon weapons instead, I just slow down and fire all my weapons, then reverse and continue firing. No need to turn.

5 D'Ds. All armed with plasma beams and the omega torp on one end and possible transphasic on the other, with DEM3, FAW, A2B, and all the trimmings.
Load them up as best you can for what damage that can do...
And play burning ring of plasma fire with them
Once those singularity overcharges start filling... are they really that much of a joke for pvp?
