Possible Solution to Traffic Jams with Massive Romulan Ships

collegepark2151collegepark2151 Member Posts: 0 Arc User
As you've probably noticed, since the launch of LOR and the massive Romulan ships accompanying it, piloting around social zones (DS9, etc.) has become difficult if not downright impossible at times.

So, one thought I had to alleviate this issue is to increase the spacing between ships when they warp into the system. I'm not sure exactly how the game mechanics work under the hood, but it looks like there are designated spawn points for ships entering and leaving the system. I'm guessing there's a variable somewhere in the code that says something like "newly spawning/arriving ships to have X amount of space from existing ships".

I say simply increase the value of X. I have no idea what this may or may not do to system memory, etc., so maybe that's why the ships stay clumped together.

Anyway, food for thought. Thanks dev's for an awesome expansion pack. Hopefully you all get a couple of weeks off to recover. :)

... and they can also reduce the hitsphere size of many of the larger Romulan ships. It's ridiculous how far I have to sit from some of them.

There's one Romulan ship in particular with very wide, flat wings that I wanted to get a screenshot with. I wanted to park my ship under the wing so it looked like I was an attached fighter. Sadly, I couldn't even get close, and none of the camera angle tricks in the world would make up for the gap.

The hitbox on the D'deridex appears to be twice as big as the actual ship--which is much bigger than most ships anyway. They really need to revisit the sizes of hitboxes across the board.

I agree on the D'deridex.. it's quite bad how easy it is to get snagged on the ship (or other ships with it - can't tell you how many times I've had NPC ships get stuck in front of me because they try to fly through its massive hitbox).

That said the D'ridthau's console.. makes it soo much less painful trying to navigate system space. I can just fly right through the constant blockade at DS9 with it. I confess I don't use it very often in combat, but it's nearly essential if you hope to ever approach a starbase these days.

It's pretty bad on the Narada...

    ...err, Adapted Battlecruiser as well.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.

    It's more than that.

The D'Deridex's hit box is fine for its width and length, but the height of the hit box is outrageously huge -- easily about 4 times its actual height, or more.

I wish some of these ships were just smaller. The D'deridex should be the biggest Romulan ship IMO. The rest should be a good deal smaller.

If the Haakona was smaller, like comparable to the size of a Chimera Class, I would be ALL OVER that thing.

collision detection boxes shouldn't be bigger than the shield spheres. unless of course some ships are so big they cant fit inside the shield sphere. in those cases should be 2 inch's beyond the hull of the ship. 2 inches from the "standard" viewing range.

you can avoid that whole situation yourself by flying your shuttle everywhere you want to go, and only switch to your big ship when you're getting ready to start a mission, stf, or whatever. you can move freely around ESD, at full impulse without much effort in the small ships. plenty of room.

My rommie flies her scorpion fighter everywhere, except when I need the Big D - all my feds fly their delta flyers. just started my klink, but will probably buy her a fighter at some point soon.

Add an option when you approach a system like that.

    Enter Sol System
    Dock at Earth Space Dock

That would remove some of the ship clutter by allowing people to zone straight into ESD/DS9/K7/New Romulus/etc.

I don't see why they don't just scale them down outright. I mean yeah it wouldn't be entirely accurate, but they scaled up the smaller ships (Defiant, B'rel) for mechanics > accuracy, so why not do the same here?
