Whilst I haven't played the mission in question I feel that the difficulty issue is a game-wide one.
The definition of elite alludes to being the very best. As such, an elite difficulty should not be something that the vast majority of people should be able to accomplish. Elite difficulty should be something that the best must focus and persevere to complete.
If the normal person can complete something on elite then not only does it cease to become elite in the true meaning of the word but it strips away challenge for those players who are a cut above the rest. It takes away the challenge. This, in turn, takes away the interest.
I am by no means an elite player. I want to be one, though. For this I need challenges to pit myself against. When I set the difficulty on elite and complete PvE missions with no real challenge then I have no incentive to continually improve my strategy and gameplay.
Easy should be exactly that. Currently it is. Normal should be challenging to the vast majority of the STO community. It isn't. It's far too easy. Elite should be something that punishes us for trying, not this namby-pamby thing we have now.
I really hate when they nerf things that don't need to be nerfed. First Andorian weapons and Catian Melee and now "The Defense of New Romulus mission." Why don't you just adjust the reward when it is repeated like purple MK XI plasma-disruptor weapons.
You do realise this mission is designed for lvl 30 players without full gear setups, right? The mission was by no means even remotely difficult at lvl 50, not even in the same solar system to warrant MK XI VR items for repayable rewards.
It was however a struggle, especially for newer players being thrown in a radically different performing ship than they had in the previous tier on top of some difficult enemies to fight. It was in need of adjusting.
Breathe and think rationally before going off on a wild ranting tangent next time.
