The rep grind in STO is a lot shorte/easier then even most Western MMOs currently (including WoW or even LoTRO). if yiou think it even comes close to an Asian MMO grind, you obviously have never played an Asian MMO with a grind system in place.
It's also optional. If you don't like doing the Reputation grinds in STO - don't.
eh... no, rep grind in WoW despite being annoying, doesn't even come close to the annoyance that is rep grind in STO, at least in WoW there was some variation, and you could get plenty of the rep simply following the story through quests(most of the time).
for instance, if you want to grind nukara, you gotta kill who knows how many tholians in nukara... on and on.. and on... or kill crystalline entity on and on...
the problem is that not only its too repetitive, and has low reward, you also gotta do it on every character.
omega rep is the only one somewhat well made, in that you simply get the marks through regular play of STFs.
if cryptic were to add similar STFs with romulan/tholian theme, or at least increase the reward you get from the already existing ones, it would be great.
and its "optional" in the same sense, you can also just equip white MK X gear to an STF and run it, some of the rep buffs are to good to pass, so yeah... its "optional".
I definitely agree that the reputation grind is a major fun sucker! At the same time, should all characters on an account get the passive bonuses of a reputation because one character unlocked it? I don't think they should. I think these changes should be made:
1) All items obtainable through the reputation system should be account bound on pickup
2) The waiting periods should be removed; Getting a sufficient amount of resources to complete the projects to get to tier 5 in a reputation wouldn't be so bad if we didn't have to wait 20 hours between each project
I think that would be a reasonable compromise.
Thanks for the expansion that had "as much content as the last"
9 Episodes = 30+ episodes...?

It's pronounced "S.T.O." "Stow" sounds idiotic! lol

Sure, you could get plenty of the rep through quests. And then the quests were done and you were at the equivalent of T2. You had to grind ALOT to get from friendly to revered, especially the pre-BC factions.

Well, the rep grind pretty much killed any desire in me to level my Romulan beyond level 3X. I played the new missions which I really enjoyed.
But grinding ALL the reputation for this new char ? No way. I barely managed to get 5 out of 6 of my existing chars through the rep system.
Now with balance based on level 5 nukara rep no time (and will) to grind rep for all my chars. Probably only my Klingon mainchar and MAYBE my Fed main will see Nukara reputation maxed out.

I would be satisfied with that, at least. Not happy, but satisfied.
I don't have problems with the Rep grind so far. Giving I only done the Romulan one. And will hit the Nukura one after I'm done with the Romulan. I'm on the last part of the Romulan at this time.
To me its not that bad. As I do the ground and space missions. That is enough points for for nearly a week. So I just contribute then collect for a few days. While I go off and do something else. Or get on an alt. Unlike other MMOs. You have to do each those missions each and every day to get anywhere. To me those was the worse. To me these was the best rep grinds I have yet played. I'm to the point where I don't mind sending my alts through it. Due to its not a long boring chore.
And this is coming from someone who hates grinds where you do it everyday.

Maybe they simplified it then because in my heyday with WoW - you ground Rep to get access to certain Raid instances - and for the top of the line Hunter Axe, I spent 6 weeks slowly grinding Cenarion Circle faction for about 3 hours a night (at 50 or so points a quest; or with other award events that reset every 30 minutes or so - and then had to do 4 raids in the Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj (arranged with my Guild) to get the other items needed to obtain that Axe.
^^^
After going through that hassle; except for the faction rep required for Raids - I stopped grinding faction rep in WoW.
