Non Tradable Bridge Officers, headache...

grayfrethgrayfreth Member Posts: 36 Arc User
Any chance that in the near future there can be a way to train the non tradable bridge officers like the liberated borgs, jemhadar, breen etc with useful skills. For instance if you want to train one of them in beam fire at will 3, or science team 3 its impossible unless your that class to train it. Cant find other bridge officers to use as training and you cant trade them to some one else to train them. Id love to use these bridge officers but sinse I cant get them trained in what would be useful to me, they aren't usefull...

No, partially. The account unlocked boffs gotten as part of LTS's or special promotions should never be tradeable.

The ones gotten as part of mission rewards should be tradeable.

The solution is to add a process by which people can train other players' boffs without actually having to transfer ownership.

Agreed, this makes a lot more sense in general.

I let my officer attend a course you run, he's still my officer he just took your course.

The two main suggestions I've seen to resolve this (I'm fine with either option) are:

    1) Add training PADDs to the game. You "train" the skill you want to the PADD. The training PADDs would be items you could sell/mail/trade to yourself or others.

    2) Add all the missing BOFF skills to the existing BOFF trainers (probably the simplest option).

Players have been asking Cryptic for years to change/improve this system.

current system is a pile of TRIBBLE, not sure why i bothered stating that, but there it is. with all respect but i dont trust anyone in real life and even less so in game, so when i trade my very rare boff out and that player logs out before putting me on ignore list, yeah.. anything is possible. i dont want to have to rely on another player to get training for one of my boffs. it should just be a simple matter of spending some credits getting the skill from the trainer.

Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.

FE Boff Rewards and Diplomacy Boff Rewards should be tradable.
Reputation Rewarded Boffs should be 'mail-able' to other characters on your account (account bound?). This enables various training.
    Others should remain locked.

My solution is to have players train sacrificial boffs to a player with a non-tradeable bridge officer which can be sacrificed to train the right skill. We would need to be able to move bridge officers from the active roster to inventory.

I think the padd idea is the best so far. They could be traded, mailed, put on the exchange. If they don't make them stackable this would be a win for Cryptic cause it would use inventory you would maybe need to buy more of. Ok Cryptic give us our SFA Lecture Padds!

the whole boff training thing is stupid..

your boff trainer from the SB should train any and every skill possible..
the more rare ones should maybe cost more.. but thats it.

what? they did it with traits already, so why not BOff skills?
And apparently we are all ok with the level of Pay 2 Win this game has reached by now.

We could need a few new ones anyway, did they even add one new BOff Skill since launch? ....don't think so.

Agreed, something like a "these items will not be traded" window.

This has been going around my head as well. My take is rather, you know how our captain skill tree has skills that give the ability to train a Boff in something, if it's our discipline? Well instead of "tactical captains who take X ranks of this can train...", it should just be "CAPTAINS who take X ranks of this can train...". Remove the class discipline requirement and just let us train if we take max ranks.

Given the prices they're running on the exchange, it seems like the traits aren't terribly desirable.
