Why does my Odyssey the most state of the art cruiser Starfleet has going right now all of a sudden sound like a swamp boat? What was the thinking behind making a starship sound like a diesel engine on its last legs? Can we please have a way to disable this horrendous noise or just take it out all together.

I almost hate using my ships with the MACO set because of this noise.

It's the MACO space impulse engines and the "asynchronous warp field". Cryptic added it during the May update. I agree, the sound effect is terrible. Please change it to something else or give us an option to disable it.

Does the sound stop if you "Disable Visuals" on the MACO consoles?

Yes. If you Disable Visuals, the sound effect also goes away.

Do note that the Assimilated Console also has a rather noticable humming sound, so I always disable the visuals on that too.
Forget the possibility of PvP, for so much has become pay-to-win, never to be balanced. Forget the promise of exploration and research, for in the grim dark future of Star Trek Online there is only war. There is no peace amongst the stars, only an eternity of carnage and slaughter, and the laughter of thirsting publishers.

I have yet to notice any of these sound effects people are complaining about... guess I should count my blessings.

I agree. The sound kicking in at warp 5 is unbearable.
Never much cared for the visual either, but the sound makes me want to throw on a different (lower level even) set.
Just glad I have a desktop volume TRIBBLE for sector space!

Visual and audio effects should really be separate options anyways.
Disabling the visual effect to disable a sound effect?
I imagine seldom being bother by both-lose my deflector visual because I don't like the sound?

Anyways, just wanted to put in my vote to scrap this sound loop. (Sorry, It's gotta go).

But, on a more encouraging note, the sound effects made by my Omega Plasma Torpedoes?
    Beautiful. Love it.
    Thanks for the post.

Whats weird is I've never heard any off these effects on my ships but i have heard them on other ships that were passing by and just wanted to unload an alpha strike on it as it passed by.

Not sure why their is such terrible noise in space as is anyhow, but they should let us really turn off that useless noise.

You know like being able to turn of the graphics of sets - for the MACO space set I'd LOVE thb option of turning off the Asynch Warp Field graphics and sound effects. It's okay the first 100 times or so, but sometimes I'd just like the option of seeing the ship move normally through warp space; and also not have my ears assaulted by what is (IMO) the MOST ANNOYING sound effect in the game.

Again STO is a game, and you do give us the option to disable the other graphics effects - PLEASE let us disable the Asynch Warp field and sound effect should we so choose.

(IMO) the MOST ANNOYING sound effect in the game.

Clearly you haven't played the new KDF exchange tutorial.

Also, as for the Asynch warp field, its not a visual effect that you can disengage, it is actually a buff you get in sector space. This seems more difficult to get rid of. Perhaps if you throttle down to below warp 10.

It's not that Cryptic added the sound - it was always there if you zoomed in close enough, they just made something go wonky in their positional audio system - again. They did it about a year ago on ground maps, the reverb effects from the center channel which should have been routed to the rear channels, got amplified and dumped back into the front channels, making the whole game sound like it as being played in a tile bathroom.

It only affects certain positional audio APIs, so some people get the issue and some don't. The best way to get it dealt with is to post in one of the threads concerning it in the tech help forum WITH YOUR SYSTEM INFORMATION (caps because people forget this - a lot) so Cryptic can figure out where exactly the problem lies.

It's a pet peeve of mine that very few MMOs employ a dedicated sound guy after initial developememt, leaving it instead to the systems programmers, while graphic arts always gets a dedicated team, hence poor VO recording and sound implementation for any audio content added after release, and annoyingly distracting audio bugs, such as these.

    Cheers!

My guess is "hope" keeps people not playing but posting on the forums. For others, its a path of sad realization and closure. Grieving takes time. The worst "haters" here love the game, or did at some point.

Honestly I don't mind the sound. I didn't even notice it until I saw this thread.

For some people it is REALLY REALLY LOUD. Like turn off your speakers and run from the room loud, because some audio drivers are placing the sound centered at the camera coordinates and not the source coordinates. The sound is already quite loud, and it's amplified so you can hear a hint of it when you are zoomed out, so when its placed right on the camera coordinates, it is shockingly vociferous.

    Cheers!

The Fleet Advanced engines have the same graphic as the Maco's and the same sound, but they do not have the option of turning off the graphic (and sound). What I did, instead of losing everything was to go into audio options and turn the "FX volume" way down. this gets rid of the growl, the obnoxious slipstream noise, and the transwarp noises in local space (particularly around ESD and DS9).

The viewers perspective is 3rd person, the point of observation is in space....dead space.
You should hear absolutely nothing from that vantage point...technically.

I vote for no sounds at all in space.
I also vote for a bridge/captains 1st person view(internal ship noise will be allowed in this view mode)... complete with interactive stations for your boffs (instead of a skill tray) huge onscreen display...
