I made myself sad now.

All day long I knew I was going to hit 50, so I was looking forward to claiming the Tactical Odyssey for my Rommie Fed character (a stop-gap until I got the points together for a proper Romulan ship). Imagine my surprise when it turns out that I'm "restricted". I thought it was a bug at first, seeing as how I'd used the Connie and Excelsie while levelling-up ... but no.

After Commander-level, you can't use any Fed ships. :( I wish I'd read about this (I normally read everything relating to the game, but somehow, this slipped me by).

(Incidentally, I'm not taking a pop at the devs for this, I'm just upset because I'd been looking forward to using the ship again.)

Ehh, this had been stated several weeks ago.

Rommies can use all allied ships from tier 1 to 4, but are restricted from tier 5, the admiral rank ships.

Primarily done because we aren't supposed to run around in Vesta's, Oddies and Kumari's, but in Haakona's, Valdores, D'Deridex's and T'Varo's.

I was bummed when I couldn't use my Armitage.

I know, I know. Like I said, the failure was on my part for not having read the attendant blogs, etc, more closely. It just made me sad when I couldn't get it after looking forward to it all day. ;)

I'm tempted to go for that one. I quite like the look of it.

Why are you guys making Romulans and not wanting to use the ships? give it a try they are much more fun, I have all those fed ships mentioned also, those get old and boring already. You can do similar builds with either the Ha'apax/ Haakona or D'Deridex retrofit.

I agree with this. No offense but it would seem to me the whole point of a new faction is to have an entirely new experience, not mostly the same experience with a side of something else. New Ships, new race, new uniforms, etc. etc., otherwise why not just play a feddie?

It's because I don't have the points, or the money to buy the points, and I wanted to use the Oddy until I could get a Rommie ship.

(I said all this in my first post. Why is no one listening!?!?) :P

    I agree both ways really.

As a Rommie I agree I should be using Warbirds, yet even only for the sole reason of having paid for them I'd love having access to my MVAE or Armitage as well.

It's bit of a tease being able to use the other C-Store ships, and for what purpose are you allied with the Federation/KDF if not to have access to their stuff? Oh, well. It's not a big thing, really.

You have access to their older things; not their cutting edge technology. They aren't fools. You are a Romulan.

That is why I also mentioned the Ha'apax, free ship that is somewhat like an oddy but no universal unless you get the z-store one.

This right here. They're willing to help you, they still don't 100% trust you so none of the new toys.

First off, I am sorry for your loss.

Secondly, may I say you're are an awesome individual? Instead of ranting about it, as a few threads have done, you state your grievance and scuttle on. You, sir, are an awesome person. Brownie points to you.

As has been stated before, this is to prevent Romulans from becoming the be-all, end-all faction.

If Romulans could use the T5 ships of either faction, then there would be no reason to be anything but Romulan. It would handicap Federation and KDF players for no reason by denying them access to Romulan ships, but giving Romulans unrestricted access to Fed and KDF ships.

That's why it's the way it is. I'd just treat Romulans flying T2-T4 ships as non-canon within the game, as it seems to be mostly a gameplay concession to give Romulans more options while leveling (for instance, if someone really can't get a handle on flying a D'Deridex, they can instead opt for a Defiant).
