omega plasma cannon 2455 DPS?

could someone explain why this item claims to have 2455 dps when it appears to me that its about the same dps as just having a 4th DHC.

For starters, it's a torpedo.

Secondly, the item has a dps that high because the game doesn't take into account the fact that it has an ammunition mechanic, instead assuming it can fire an infinite number of times in a given timeframe.
