first of all cryptic studios made this game for u... and they are doing their best to make this awesome game more awesome...after LOR upgrade they make maintenance after maintenance to stop server instability and queues and bugs...
have u ever tried looking on the code of program? in C++ or in C# or any other programming language, even u can try looking at HTML... easiest of them... and they have 5-10 GB of that code , that's about 10000+ pages of code... and u want to fix all problems in one maintenance , that's not going to happen and they fiscally cant do that all in one day or even one week, they will be fixing this bugs about next month or even next 2-3 month ... so stop whining about nothing ... i don't know how many employees they have but i know they are working as hard as they can to make this game bug free , and ur whining is not helping at all...

thanks for reading

lol... no, your first sentence debunks your whole argument..
cryptic doesnt make this game "for" us.. they make it to make money... cryptic is not a charitable organization, they are a buisness (a lousy one at that) pwe demands that they make a quota, and what not..
and there in lies the problem with your entire post.. they are a buisness, they need to be able to release content (weather it has 10 gigs or 10 terabytes of code) with the same professionalism other games do.. im not gonna list every game, but lets take rift for example. Trion actually does this thing called "test" whenever they have new code.. cryptic does not.. they have a whole friggen server for testing, but they never use it.. thus, each day the server has to come down, and each day its a roll of the dice weather or not the downtime, and ensuing patch actually fix anything.. where as a company like trion, doesnt just rip the server down, drop a patch no one knows will work or not, and then call it a day.. they do a quick test, and when its ready, it gets released.. (of course, in the three years that i have played it, i think i have seen their servers do down unscheduled maybe 3 times..
testing, its amazing what you can achieve when you put time and effort into something, and then check your work.. i mean really, there are still spelling errors in the game.. they dont even run spell check.. hahahaa..
Stop crying/ apologizing for Cryptic.
You don't work there and have no idea whats going on.
Bottom line is if they can't cope, then they need to do something about it instead of relying on apologists defending them.
Coding is not that hard. It's a job, that people get paid for, to do right, and normally subject to the rules of the workplace IE you TRIBBLE up you get fired.
Cryptic is a loose group of friends that cover for each other and use the loose "management" system. No one gets fired. It's just "My Bad" and downtime server maintenance.
That's the tradeoff for a more friendly company.
once they start working on new stuff, bugs languish around for month to years if they ever do get fixed.
and the majority of in-game bugs were reported by tribble players
the majority of the major bugs will liekly be taken care of over the next few weeks but the multitude of small ones will be around for ages
seriously we can't even get our ships pointing the right direction after changing sector blocks
So please pardon our whining, we are still in the 'anger' stage of our five stages of grief and many of us have moved on to 'bargaining' and 'depression' but I think you may still be in 'denial'
an apologist for the status quo? a game company relies on feedback not a bunch of yes men. we all know that the cryptic server is having a torrid time over the week, thats expected due to launch and everyone has accepted that, but it shouldnt last beyond that as at this stage is where fixes are brought in.
so far there is nothing on the tribble release notes to state what they are testing for holodeck and the last one was the 23rd, a week ago roughly. so they have either given up trying to fix their new game and leave it as it is, in which case, even you has to ask why you are defending their point of view, or they are just a bit late getting their upgrades and new patches worked out, in which case their internal departments are lacking considerably from what they usually put out.
Now as for coding, the game uses this. from what i am told it is significantly more complicated the more you add to it and as a result stuff can become corrupted and as a result; an unstable shard. that is what is going on here. i dont understand c++ or whatever else as its so complex that my mind wouldnt comprehend it, i am a simple man and prefer to keep it that way.
Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.
about the code.. i dont know about shard system or codes... but its hell of a job to make it work... and about its a company and they should not realize something untill its done properly you are wrong ... if u dont realize new stuff, like ships, factions, races STFs... and other stuff this game will die soon enough... and bugs come with them too...
and i repeat its free to play game... not p2p or even pay to play game... its really f2p game... and all i read in forums are whining about maintance and whining about how cryptic is cheap or how they have high prices over ships... comon... if u dont want to pay this game its ur choice but don't make them regret about making this awasome game...
p.s. i've been playing this game from january ... i'm kinda new but all i see in forums are raging over something thats are minor...
and one last thing... u are so into this game u cant even wait for 1-2 hours to play it... and raging over the devs for it... admit it u love this game and u love devs creation... so dont rage over somthing like 1-2 hours of ur waiting time go outside, or even watch tv or play some other game... just relax and let the devs do their job properly without ur whining thats what i wanted to say... )
"he doesnt get it jim" lol..
yes, it is free to play.. and yes, you can grind your way through.. but they count on people dumping money in..
most, not all, but most of the people who have complaints, are lifetimers, or people who have dumped more money into this game, than any other game they have ever played.. again.. cryptic is a buisness, not a charity.. if they were a charity, and it was a true free to play game, it would not have a c store, it would not gate every aspect of the game in hopes that you will open your wallett or purse to get passed those gates (ie, having a fleet ship, having more inventory space, having more doffs, more ships, more doffs, i higher energy credit cap, costumes, ie, everything..).
and log on to any forum for any game. no one comes on to just say, "hey guys, hows it going?" no, they come here when they have a question, comment, concearn.. the forums are not a social are, but more a tool for the developers to gauge customer feedback, review, and problems..
we might come on here and say we hate this, we hate that. but if you think for one second that any of the devs actually feels hurt, or sad, or sheds a tear over it, your sadly mistaken.. they get paid weather it works or not, they do not care what we think.. it is their job...
i love the people who seem to not mind having a sub par game.. i mean really, you should want it to be the best.. i would rate sto average, to below average at this moment in time.. sure, its got great graphics, and cool ship battles, but to be honest, sans the new romulan missions, the story line has been pretty weak sauce. even the new romulan story arc is ok at best.. sure, the twist and turns are cool, but it feels very immature in its writing.. like they feel we couldnt figure out big words, or put complicated scentences together lol.. i remember, the first few missions i did, i asked fleeties weather or not they had a contest for middle school children to write the dialogue lol..
on top of that, you have servers which have been having major issues over the last year (not just since the expansion launch, but weeks before, months before, up to a year now we have not had a single month that didnt have a catastrauphic server crash.. on top of that, just today, i was playing a mark mission (the vault ensnared) and a bug that it has had since it came out like a year ago or so, the 9/10 ships saved thing was still there.. the queue system still has all the same bugs, stf's have alot of bugs that have been there for ever.. i could go on..
to be honest, i do not see alot of pride in the coding of most of this game.. sure, ships are spot on, graphics are nice, but the code that makes you go from point a to point b is horrendous, and everytime they look at the servers, it crashes..
do you have any clue what code actually looks like and how programming works?
first, of the 5.83 GB STO takes on my hard drive, about 5.4 will probably be video, image and sound assets (those are the actual heavy weight elements in any game). the game engine itself will weight, at best, about 100megs.
second, contrary to what you may believe, the code itself (most likely C++ ) actually takes alot less then the compiled files, and because i believe they don't employ monkeys it will also be arranged to appropriate libraries and classes, i also devoutly hope they have some unit tests in place for their code, or at least a compilation environment where they can test their code before release.
now, i know that as a live game, the development team is probably not that large, especially the maintenance department of it. i highly doubt more then 1 or 2 developers deal with the bug fixes, and even then it's usually a bottom of the rung job for your average programmer (programmers as a rule like to work on new stuff, not mess about in their or someone else's old code). i really think they should probably re-direct the future tasks development team to go over the existing code and do a bug fix patch before working on new stuff (as hateful as it will sound to them)
Actually in the grand scheme of things they do make it for us because it's their countless hours of blood & sweat spent on developing something for people to enjoy so in theory the OP is correct on that :P.
Second is the wipe, which forced a great many players to either start over and have to do the same process all over again, or abandon Tribble entirely. I'm sure a lot of people simply couldn't bother making another character on Tribble and level them to where they were previously, not to mention all the way to 50.
Finally, the whole thing was way too close to the launch date to allow enough numbers of players to reach level 50 and start playing around with the new content, ie Ker'rat fixes, Nukara mark rep system, new events, ships, revamped missions, etc.
All in all, it wasn't planned with enough time for players to test the meat of the game - and the wipe didn't help much either. A greater number of bugs could have been caught had the wipe not occurred, or the entire testing period start earlier.

My List of Useful Links, Recently Updated November 25 2017!
IN THIS CORNER: Y'all need to stop being dicks about your complaints. When I see people post about their issues with the game, it's never:
"I have a problem, please help me sort it out so I can keep enjoying the game".
Instead, it's:
"THIS IS BROKEN AND F*K YOU CRYPTIC FOR BEING SUCH A FAIL I HOPE YOU GO OUT OF BUSINESS."
Because yeah, that'll make 'em wanna help you out. (read that with overwhelming sarcasm to appreciate the atmosphere.) Your concerns? Mostly valid (except for some weird nitpicky sh*t but I won't open that can of worms here). But your approach? About as bad as conceivably possible, short of spraying bullets at Cryptic Studios' offices.
TL;DR - You are not in control, so don't be a **** to the people who are - and maybe you'll get a faster response/resolution.
AND IN THIS CORNER: Creating a desperate "stop hating" thread is literally asking for hate to proliferate. This is the internet; your best option is to shut the f*k up and let them run themselves out of steam. If they hate the game this badly, they'll eventually give up and stop playing, and that isn't your problem. Just keep doing what you enjoy and let them be hateful, jaded, crotchety so-called "fans".
Left disappointed
if they didnt get a paycheck, and the company wasnt going to make money off the game, it would not exist, plain and simple.. they make it first and foremost for profit.. and i dont know about you, but i dont see alot of blood sweat and tears in sto, i see alot of bear drinking, half a**ed, poor worksmanship. (yes, they are better at making a game than i am.. no, they are not better at making a game than 80 percent of their competitors lol)...
most of the veteran players used to bring complaints in a very humane way.. its the fact that time after time after time after time they either ignore, or keep breaking the same things over and over again, and seem to like to find the longest way possible to fix it (if they even attempt to fix it at all) that has made this comminity salty..
funny thing i see on the forums.. the "fan boys" are mostly new players (i said mostly, there are a few long term players who are also pro cryptic, and look the other way with issues)..
a vast majority of the people making most of the complaints (well the ones i pay attention to cause they are not just hate spam, or troll threads) are from long term players who used to be fan boys.. and i have watched those peeps turn from fan boy, to mildly irritated, to full blown jerks, and even some of the ones i knew ingame, have since quit..
most of the fan boys of today, will soon be as salty as the rest of us.. just waite, watch and see...
however, i do agree with what you are sorta trying to say.. while i fully believe that cryptic deserves the backlash, it should however stay constructive.. coming on to tell cryptic that example b sucks, and not backing it up or trying to help them figure out why, is useless and a waste
telling them that example b sucks, and giving them constructive critisizm, saying i think if option b functioned like this, well it shows your not just trolling, or being an a**.
whenever i complain, its usually half a web page of why im complaining.. i simply do not make stupid, irrisponsible statements. (or i try not too, ive been goated before by some peeps in here... ) lol..
