I would, personally, chill out on these. The market for them right now is nuts because they're new and there aren't a lot of them out there. If you do stumble upon a good warp core, sell it. Sell it before the prices come down. In a few weeks to a few months, you'll be able to buy any warp core you want at a reasonable price, and still have a handsome profit from all the people who have to have it right now. I'm running dil store ones for the time being, they're fine. Just pay attention to your choices there, and get one that makes sense for your build.
Foundry farming once a day should net you at least something interesting in terms of warp cores, and if all else fails, getting the 400-600K EC from the effort should help pay for one on the exchange.

This is the best advice right now. The bold part especially because there are a lot ... A LOT ... of impatience people willing to pay extortionate prices to have what they think is the best of the best. Right. Now. It's a seller's market for these things and you would do well to simply play the game and look at the drops you get for BIG money. A sucker is born every minute, don't be one of them. It's a shame so many players burned up Dilithium and EC to the vendors because that currency won't go to another player.
Anyways, good luck!
/watching from the sidelines because my standard Warp Core is just fine for my game while my wallet gets fat
I was lucky and came across an Overcharged MkXI [Purple] for 10 million EC a few days back - not sure if the seller missed a zero when they put it up for sale, but the next best price was 15mil. Possible that I was just lucky and managed to nab it while everyone was obsessing over new Romulan content.
Though I suspect I was fortunate to nab one that was put up at the wrong price (not so fortunate for the seller in that case, but if I hadn't nabbed it you can guarantee that someone else would have).
I think that may have been me. I did post a purple core for 10M at least. It's simply what I valued it at.

and this is why players moan when they are called greedy... Yup... exactly the problem with MMO players in a nutshell. If you can't overprice the hell out of it, why should you bother?

Normally, I'd agree with you to an extent. Prices for things on the exchange are drastically overinflated in general due to there being nothing to really drain EC out of the economy. In this case though, we're talking about things that will likely find themselves in the vendor dustbin along with all those impulse engines and shields that aren't worth more than their scrap value. The only reason these things are worth anything right now is because of people being impatient. I see no problem with separating impatient people from their virtual money.
Also, things are ultimately worth whatever somebody's willing to pay for it. You can't blame sellers for charging what the market will bear. The problem is there's too much EC in the economy, not player greed.
For anyone who hasn't done it yet; you should run thru all the missions on Nimbus III. It takes less than 2 hours and you end up with a Warp Core (Grn) I think it is the one with 7.5% Shield Boost and a Purple Projectile DOff.
All 7 of my VAs are running these Warp Cores until the market ajusts.
