CAP Problem!

suzanna3suzanna3 Member Posts: 81 Arc User
I am wondering why the cap limit of players in each instance of Deep Space 9 has now been lowered from 75 to 45. As a Trek radio DJ who twice weekly holds in game parties [usually at ds9] when broadcasting my show, I am receiving many pms from players unable to get into the instance where the party is being held, even though I chose an instance with just 1 player, in which to hold it.
Of course there are our starbases BUT they do not allow cross faction invites so star bases are thus underused, despite all the effort put in to build them up.

Ships can not hold more than 20 approx.

Are there any areas that can now hold 75 approx players in one instance?

This is disappointing on many levels. Given the sad state of most social zones in this game (Risa, Andoria, Vulcan, Starbase 39, Memory Alpha to name a few), it's frustrating that developers have chosen to lower the amount of people that can be in each instance. If anything the limits should have been raised to avoid most of these zones looking like ghost towns.

It makes sense in an area like Nimbus where you wouldn't want 75 people running through the mountain pass killing all the mobs. This was the original reason for instances in RPGs - to make sure there were enough mobs to go around so people could level/quest. What is the point of lowering the limit on DS9? Too many people standing at the bank? This is supposed to be a massive Starbase and you're limiting it to 45 people... Can you imagine the winter event with it's capacity lowered? I'm sure it wouldn't have been as much fun.

There are many reasons why the capacity should be raised - parties, fleet events, tournaments. Fleets can have 500 people in them but only 45 can hang out together at a time? I can't think of any good reasons why a social zone should have its instance limits restricted this much. Ker'rat should also have it's limits raised and people should be allowed to switch instances again. You have a single PvP zone in the game and its incredibly annoying to try to group with your friends or sometimes even get in an instance that has good PvP going on.

There's already nothing to do in social zones, why are you trying to take away any remaining social aspect by making it harder for people to be in the same instance as their friends? Please reconsider the recent changes.

i agree on this.. this change seems like a band-aid fix for the server problems..
[12:35] Vessel Two of Two Unimatrix 01 deals 225232 (271723) Plasma Damage to you with Plasma Lance.
[12:44] Vessel One of Two Unimatrix 01 deals 1019527 (1157678) Kinetic Damage to you with Plasma Energy Bolt Explosion.

Yeah and it makes it no fun when your in a team with friends and it keeps sending you to different zones all the time.

And 45? for a big zone like DS9 seems silly

I think the zone lowering was most likely an effort to reduce the epic lag everyone was experiencing over the last few days. I know the limits were higher a day after LoR hit then they lowered it in tau dewa etc.

It is through repetition that we learn our weakness.
A master with a stone is better than a novice with a sword.

Has damage got out of control?
This is the last thing I will post.

If they are lowering the amount of people to a zone they are admitting there is a problem?

Also with the caps lower does this mean there is less over all people in the game? 75 - 45 is 30 people and if thats per instance thats alot of people whats the solution? Open new instances but does that cause additional lag? can you see where im going??? For every actio there is a reaction queues, additional lag, server, what??? Cryptic dont discuss anything from what ive seen in the past month of play its all kept close to the chest "server maintenance" so what you do??? Response: "......." few days/weeks later "al the maintenance is to reduce the maintenance BUT it will keep happening and there will be, more...

Like i said they give the players nothing. Its a badly run company...

This again lends itself to the argument for cross faction access in the starbase and embassy. Social interaction is a vital part of what MMO's are supposed to be about. Reducing the limit cap = reducing the social interaction. I would be interested in Branflakes honest view on this as he has to organise social events for Cryptic.

This seems to be yet another indicator of the sort of hardware that Cryptic is using to run the game. Over 7 years ago I was playing MMO's that were capable of holding 100 ppl per instance in major areas and i might add had over 90+ instances of that area during major events. To not be able to hold more than 45 in the key areas of this game is a major backward step once again Cryptic. I also would like to hear from Branflakes on this.
