The current mail bug I'm sure has highlighted a particularly annoying issue: we get TOO MUCH "Item sold in the Exchange" mails. For every single item that we may or may not care about, from Very Rare Plasma Beam Arrays to Tribbles, there's a message for that. It clogs up our inboxes, making reading more important items more difficult, and is often a disappointment to hear that little notification beep in the right hand corner only to find that you finally sold that Hypo. Here are a couple of ideas to address the Exchange mail glut:
- Move Exchange sale notifications to a separate tab in the Exchange window instead.
Frankly, I'm not sure why this was not the original design for the system. In the Exchange window, next to the current "Buy" and "Sell" tabs, there would be a "History" tab. Click on it, and it lists all the things that you have sold on that account, with the sales that have occurred most recently highlighted at the top. Think of the Dil Exchange History and Fleet Bank Storage Logs as a baseline for how something like this would look. Expired items would still go back to you through the Mail system, but now it would be cleared up from every minor sale message.
- Let players set quality thresholds for Exchange sale notifications.
For those players that actually
want messages for Exchange sales, but not necessarily
all sales, have a dropdown selector (again, maybe in the Exchange window interface) that allows a player to select the threshold of items they would like to be notified about directly by mail. So if a player sets this threshold to '
Very Rare', they will get mail notifications if they sell a
[Disruptor Cannon Mk XI], but not for every bottle of
[Romulan Ale].
What do you guys think? Pros/cons? Any ideas you would like to add?
