when i see that almost nude dancing man i always come back thinking; when you see the world for what it is today, love, any love is better then ending up on the receiving end of pain and misery that is being inflicted all too often on one another. i used to be homophobic but i no longer consider that at all any longer. so if you talk to that drooling alien male sitting on the chair watching that man dancing when he points out the direction. at least there is no pretense about it.

but just because i am happy to see something like this in sto doesnt mean i want a whole chapter dedicated to it in the near future, love is fine, but it should remain a private thing or as close as since i doubt anyone wants to know about someone elses sexual affairs in details.
Yeah, it's not as if anyone knows about Riker and Troi humping each other like....oh, wait.

Actually no, it is assumed that by this future date, acts not conductive to Gene survival would be weeded out like the Appendix and your little fingers.

Aliens as well as humans are ruled by their Genes.

You don't really know much about genetics or evolution, do you?

Let's start with the idea that evolution doesn't take place that quickly. Even if every case of homosexuality were selected against by being unable to reproduce (demonstrably false), it would take thousands of years for such a gene complex to be deleted from the human genome, not a mere three hundred.

As for the rest, well, go look up the difference between dominant and recessive genes. Once you've gotten through that, try gene complexes, where the expression of one set of genes affects the expression of another set.

I just wonder why so many are creeped out by implied homosexuality, not by the fact that Jensen is longingly ogling something that isn't even the same species he is. Being TRIBBLE is worse than bestiality??

The soap opera is called The Next Generation. Perhaps you would like to watch an episode or two? Start with the pilot episode. Data gets it on with Yar.

You guys are all missing the biggest, most critical question this all raises though:

Why does Shangdu get stripper poles but my KDF starbase doesn't!?

This is a good question for the Foundry as well. I went through like 60 random props trying to find something to make a stripper pole. Please add. It's canon. None of the current props work unless I stack 50 little flashing red lights together. That's a resource hog.

LOL you should have seen the time it took me to make a strippers pole in SWG though after a few people saw it in the Mustafar Bunker I made quite a bit making them for others and even for the city cantina. The hardest part was having the glow sticks used to place properly so they could be seen but not over powering

Don't be so homophobic, :P (j/k) plenty of TRIBBLE men play this game, like me. I for one, commend Cryptic on their attempts to integrate that in the future, nobody will care about people's sexuality. It was what Gene said on the matter. "By the 24th Century, nobody will care about sexuality, it will be a personal choice."

    Good call Cryptic

and I know TRIBBLE females who play too

And the fact that homosexuality has never been "weeded out" in the past millions of years and that is exists within so many different species means that it actually must serve a purpose and that nature likes it exactly the way it is. ;)

All five of them who made it to Nimbus, that is; I've seen plenty RPing in Quark's (and several sad dudes hitting on them).

I didn't really care; IIRC, the other two dancers are females. It's about as obvious as it can be without being obnoxious or (overly) distasteful. I'm actually somewhat impressed; if only they had used equal consideration in writing the Romulan material.

    LOL Assumed by whom?

So you're saying that humans and other sentient species would forgo sex for pleasure, using it only for procreation?

Based on what? From what we've seen of the future according to Trek, humans and most other species have become more liberal regarding sex/sexuality.

The sexual taboos of religions have become individual/personal beliefs, rather than the propagated 'norms' we see today. You're entitled to those beliefs, but if you're unwilling/unable to at least respect the diversity of life you are seen as the 'odd' one.

Definitions change over time; what is 'normal', what constitutes a 'marriage', what defines a 'family'. Even scientific definitions are subject to change as our exposure to knowledge increases.

Not to mention contraception seems to have been perfected and is just a hypospray away, and STIs have all but been eliminated.

It seems the biggest problem with sex and sexuality in the 25th century is making sure you're physiologically compatible.

Finally on the specific subject of the thread, when I saw it in-game I both laughed and applauded :) Thank you Cryptic for making the game even more trek by embodying the core values of Star Trek; those of IDIC, equality, respect, and understanding. :)

Now, where are those skants you've been working on? :P

I beg your pardon. Data and Yar do not "get it on" in the pilot episode for Star Trek: the Next Generation.

They waited until the third episode.

Non procreative acts signal overpopulation response. The Happy couples don't produce young, thus the population drops.
