This old bug is getting quite annoying now, it doesnt happen on any of my old toons, but on any new ones the camera just keeps resetting the zoom to all the way into the ship, its REALLY getting on my nerves now.

When is this finally going to be fixed?

Quite annoying you have to zoom out the ship on almost every map change.

I get that same thing about half the times I beam into space. It just randomly zooms all the way in for no reason.
Also only happens on the 2 characters I created in the last few months. All my old ones don't get it.
Wasn't quite sure if it is related to that or the fact that those characters fly bigger ships, the Vo'quv and D'deridex, though.
    Very annoying.

Coincidentally, I just filed an in-game bug report about this today. I think I also filed one a couple of seasons ago. It is quite annoying.

Not sure if it just randomly stopped doing it or not, but it kinda seams to only do it with larger sized ships to me?
It did it all the time for me while flying a Vo'quv or a D'deridex.
But as soon as I switched to a T'varo it stopped.
    Can anyone confirm this?

I'm getting it now, as of last nights patch. I didn't do that before yesterday, on my Qin. I haven't looked at my other toons as of yesterday yet.

As far as I can tell, it happens on all ships, but you might not notice as much on smaller ships, because they don't look as big when the camera is zoomed in. It doesn't happen every time, but it happens often enough to be reproducible.

This is a long-standing problem, and I don't this will ever get fixed so I aliased '/' to 'ui_load'. Every time this problem appeared, I could just hit '/' twice then ENTER and it would reload the UI. That worked because I didn't mind zooming in with my mouse whenever it was a small escort ship.

Naturally, someone found out a player had a fix for this problem. Yes, it was a lousy fix, and just a work-a-round... so something had to be one.

First. Make it so that if a player presses '/', it SOMETIMES does a '//' instead. Not all the time, just some of the time (ok you @#$%#$%, I found out I can beat this by pressing ENTER first! Hah!).

Next, you know that hud weapons 'object' (that thing that displays your ships weapons/etc)? Someone now made sure that if you use the same UI settings for all the ships, NONE of them would match up properly. Got it right for a 3/3 ship? Well, the 5/2 ship will overlap something. Oh? Fixed that by leaving enough room? Well if you use a ROM ship, not any more. So now, instead of no gaps between my onscreen objects... I have to leave FOUR times the space needed for the 'weapon object' so that regardless of what ship I have, it won't overlap anything else.

Seriously, why would you would have a different anchor point for the weapons object for each ship? And only since LOR? Couldn't just leave it as the top-left corner of the object for every ship?

And stop swapping my Integral Frequency Remodulation and Distortion Field icons on my ground powers tray! Do you understand how it looks if in battle against the Borg, I cloak instead of courageously standing my ground and remodding my weapon?

So the fix is to add this line to 'CommandAliases.Txt' located at "\Steam\steamapps\common\star trek online\Star Trek Online\Live\localdata"

    alias / "ui_load"

Non-Steam players, it's in the x86 Program Files folder. In this case, 'Live' = Holodeck, Tribble's would be Playtest.

To activate an alias, you have to press '/' first, that's why I used '/' as the alias for 'ui_load', since I would just need to press '/' twice then ENTER. Now you have to press ENTER, /, /, ENTER.

Most of the HUD object have fixed anchor or reference points. So as you switch ships, things like the mini-map or chat window location/size/etc stay the same. EXCEPT for the Weapons object. Since LOR, that's a little different now if you are using a ROM ship especially. Prior to this, the only fly in the ointment was the 5/2 which made for a slightly wider box.

A more advanced fix is to change the FOV angle (since this is a Cryptic game, FOV here refers to the vertical angle) with "/gfxsetdefaultfov nn"

    alias 55 "gfxsetdefaultfov 55"

55 is close to or is the default value. Different values will lessen the chances of the camera 'auto-zoom' taking effect.

An even more advanced way, make the value a variable so you can type /fov 75 to get a fov of 75 and so on. You can also have it set so that the UI will reload every time you change zones (and respawn too).
