Hi guys, i'm flying an andorian charal escort and i'm doing the omega reputation. In 2 days more i will get the tier 3. In about 25-26 days i will get tier 5 (very very long grinding).
My questions are:
1- for my ship what is the best set? I was thinking on borg set, of course i have now cutting beam and assimilated module and i will get the Omega Plasma Torpedo Launcher when i will reach reputation tier 4. But for an escort maybe is better the maco set? I'm not interested in pvp.
2- getting reputation tier 5 is very annoying for me, but at tier 3 i can obtain the set mkXI. The set at tier 5, MKXII is significantly better?
3- for ground set what is the best set for a tactical character? I was thinking omega set.
1 - A very popular combo is to pair the Borg engine and deflector with a different shield, usually the MACO. I'd recommend an Elite Fleet shield if you can get your hands on one. Those have the ability to adapt their resistance to whatever type of energy weapon happens to be shooting at you.
2 - Nope. Not worth it if you can't stand the grind.
3 - The Omega set is more offensive, MACO set more defensive. Both are great and either is a fine choice. I personally prefer the MACO because I like the MACO phaser rifle better than the Omega submachine gun.
So i will get borg engine and deflector, and maco shield :-)
I can get elite fleet sheeld only by fleet right? Actually my fleet is at a very low level.
I can wait the tier 5, fortunately there are a lot of things to do in star trek online. So the stats of the MXI are similar to MKII?
if you PVE, then MACO is a better choice. it has a given defensive buff against plasma weaps, and a bit less buff against everything else. and meanwhile it increases DPS, and defense by building up a bit of power if you are shot at. maco is a good choice.
the borg engine and deflector is best for the healing bonus (it is a rather high healing number if you know what you are doing)
as far as the borg set goes, I suggest not using the torps only the console and the KCB. the torps are not that good, not even with the bonus proc you get from the set bonus
I personally am a full borg type myself. I just love everything borg and anti borg. The game is about borg annihilation so why change from the given? Borg sets heals and damage is off the charts. IT's bonuses are amazing and useful. Survivability is about being able to survive massive amounts of catastrophic damage and the heals of the full borg set heals both shields and hull. And to a n escort if you can shrug off an alpha assault by a BoP or two and keep it moving you have something damned good. Lord knows in my pathetic little patrol escort (Not the Fleet one) I am a force to be reckoned with.
Interesting thing about Maco and Omega sets none of the klinks will use the adapted versions that allow them to get these things and yet Feds keep swearing by them. If a pvp centric sect like the klinks refuse to even look at these then there might be something wrong with it...
Hello ferdzso0, that's interesting. Maco can be better for pve... my pve is generally for omega force, but i will start new romulus when i fill the reputation omega.
And thanks for the advise about the omega plasma torpedo (15 k dilithium!).
Now someone can tell me the difference between maco/borg ecc. set MKXI and MKXII?

I'm not in-game right now so I can't give specifics, but the stats for the MkXII gear are only marginally better than MkXI. Definitely nothing game-changing, and the set bonuses are the same across the board.
If you think you DO want to get the MkXII gear, don't waste your money on getting MkXI first. Use something you can get for free (like the Jem'Hadar set) while you grind your way to MkXII.
...the gentlemen above me summed it up nicely and this is just my opinion.....
1- I use the Adapted MACO, just for the torpedo bonus, that way I almost save a console slot for an extra energy type weapon boost...I fly the Kumari Variant...
2- marginal boost, but it is "better" nonetheless; I personally choose not to do it.
3- Some purists say Omega is better for tactical, but the gentlemen earlier said it already....I'm a Tac Cap, and I use MACO......personal preference.....
Hello lasonio, this is another different solution, the full borg set. My goal is to survival a little vs borg: in elite stf they 1shot me. When i'm more lucky i die in 2 shot.
90% of the time I do not even see the blow coming.
variant37, now i'm using the breen set, but i'm very weak. I get also 2 MKXI Field generator but when the heavy plasma torpedo come to me, i will die very fast. I don't know if this is the same way for the other type of ship with a similar equip.

Thanks thumpyecho, another set, adaptec maco. I don't know it. I use 1 only quantum torpedo launcher, the rest of the weapons are 2 phasers dual heavy cannons, wing cannons, 1 phaser beam array, 1 phaser turret and cutting beam.

I need a better surival.
2 things - First, tac team is your friend. If you haven't already, you need to slot 2 of those on your tac boffs and cycle between them. This alone will greatly enhance your survival rate. Later when you can afford some purple conn doffs you can scale the tac team back to 1.
Second, stop taking those heavy plasma torps right in the face. Get away from it with an evasive manuvers and then shoot it down. Let the cruiser captains be manly men and soak up all the damage.

You are welcome sir,
If you can go to the STO Wiki, there is a wealth of information there....it's out of date, but the contributors are slogging through it......Adapted MACO is the Federation variant of the Klingon Honor Guard set; just take the stats from the Honor Guard set and put them with the corresponding Federation equipment....
The "Purist DPSers" insist on all energy weapons, but I prefer not to do it...that's just me.....
You are using all one energy type.....that's a good start right there....
I could go on and on but I don't want to clutter up everything and start wandering topics....

I'd wager quite a few quatloos that it's not the high yield torps that kill the person. It's crits from the regular torps. Which during a task force, with all the cluttered and scattered fire, can make them very hard to see, and they can't be shot down.

Yes, i see, i have tactical team 1 and 2 on my tactital bridge officers.
I use evasive manuvers but when i'm in the range of a tactical cube, also at about 10 km, i can stand only for a few second, than borgs starts to attack me deadly. Probabily the party will be set properly to protect escorts that are fragile. A lot of times the screen is full of explosion and lights that is near to impossible to see a plasma torpedo coming.
thumpyecho
Ahh... i've cheched sto wiki but adeptec maco set is not preset, i will check honor guard set :-) I'm using pahsers because the charal comes with wing cannons so i changed all my wepoans to phasers.

Hmm you shouldn't be getting one shot by the elite tac, there may be something off with your build or your captain. or boff set up. I am surviving that thing and tanking it away from the gate in a patrol escort so it should be fine. make sure you check you build.
Secondly the torp isn't invisible. The animation is just extremely extremely long. Like around 5-10 seconds. the moment your ship is hit with borg virus and your sheilds start stripping. count 2-3 seconds hit brace for impact, and hazard emits then EmpS's/RSS and either omega, evasives, or one of those Deuterium Surplus speed consumes that come from the Defense Contract daily and hit a hard turn because it is coming and it's coming hard. And you will increase your survivability by leaps and bounds against that thing.
But yeah you need 2 TT's to make shielding easier.
Adapted Maco (aka klingon honour guard for feds) is quite nice. The 2-set bonus does not only give a big boost for torpedos, it also gives you 8.8 Aux power and some crew boost (not sure how useful the latter is). The problem is, that u need tier 5 omega rep and that it is MK XII. That means 3000 Omega marks, 132 000 Dilithium, 30 Borg neural processors etc for the whole set... as far as I remember. So you will have to collect a while. But I personally think, 2 pieces are enough. The 3 set bonus is mask energy field.
The good thing about the adapted deflector is that is has subspace decompiler, which is otherwise only boosted by putting skillpoints in the respective skill (there is no console boosting it as far as I remember). This skill affects your phasers, if you use any. So at the end you could use MACO shield + Adapted MACO Engine/Deflector for example.
Thanks a lot guys for your great advise!
When possibile i will try to play, yesterday i was in a queue of about 28.800 players, and in these days it's impossibile to play.
