...and i've probably blown up more ships than picard did during his entire career. Not counting wolf 359 ofc.
Don't get me wrong. This expansion is a massive improvement of the game, but the new missions just feel a bit too combat oriented for my taste. And considering that you start the game with a scout class romulan bird of prey, I don't understand how I alone can defeat 4 other romulan ships at the same time, not to mention take on a d'deridex warbird on my own. It seems wherever I go there are always tons of enemy ships engaging me in combat making the missions feel a bit repetative.
I had much more fun with the first new missions on the klingon campaign. perhaps my bath'leth is to blame.
I love the new locations, especially the first map the player starts at, however it feels as if I dont get to spend much time on any of them. The missions are quite short and i find myself beaming back to the ship a few minutes after I've beamed down.
Other than that, great work on the new expansion!!
STO's an action MMO. Action games are generally about pew-pew. One the Fed side you pew-pew Borg, then you pew-pew Orions, and then you pew-pew Klingons and then... well, you get the idea. It's not any different for the Roms or KDF.
I know there are pure Trekkies out there that would be perfectly happy to run around the ship talking to crews all day and then coax a giant jellyfish back into space with an transfer beam, but the majority of MMOers would be bored to death doing that.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

Basically the same thing that was said back when the game first launched... and it's still as true today as it was back then. As a Starfleet Captain I should not have the blood of tens of thousands on my hands before I reach the rank of Lieutenant Commander. But they decided it was more important to have flashy firefights on-screen with shooting and explosions than more realistic starship combat.
Having said that, there's a difference between a Star Trek Simulatior and a Star Trek Game, and the potential number of buyers is significantly higher for one than the other. So they made a Game rather than a Simulator. I'm cool with that.
I just wish some concession was made on how enemy ships were being handled. It would be nice if they didn't *all* blow up and take all hands with them. It would be nice to see enemy ships do intelligent things, like... run away. Or surrender. Or, maybe the ship doesn't explode, maybe you just disable it and it sits there venting plasma, but it's out of the fight for all intents and purposes. Just some variety to how enemies in space go down.
I think I am a bit of a mixture between trekkie and average gamer. I do enjoy combat, but I would like to see more puzzles and usage of our different classes. So far there has only been 1.
I am not "complaining" that there is combat in the campaign, just saying that it can be a bit overkill sometimes.

Depending on which mission you're talking about... the ships included several that were unshieded fighters and frigates, and the D'Deridex you don't fight alone two cruisers come in to help you.
Now go back and play the Federation early missions. You do the same things, even going up against a cruiser and 2 frigates at once whie rescuing the Azura freighter in the first mission.

Im refering to the mission outside the suliban station. I engage a warbird without support and defeat it without any problems whatsoever.
I agree with you, however those missions were made over 2 years ago when the game was being rushed to get released on time. Considering the improvement in mission quality with featured episodes for example, I guess I expected something similar with the new romulan campaign in terms of variety and gameplay.
Like i said, the new locations are gorgeous and there is an improvement quality wise. Im just saying I would have enjoyed the missions a lot more without constantly having ships thrown in my face to blow up, wave after wave.

I thought the suliban mission was farther in but yes that one is really quite a lot of ships for what the plot suggests.
I do agree with you, I'd have preferred never more than a few enemies but all of them tougher and the fights more challenging. Still, I do love the romulan experience. The story just keeps getting better and better. I tested into the low 30s and loved all of it.
But I do agree, fewer enemies would be much more Trekkish. Ah, well. So it goes.
