Fleet Advanced Research Vessel Retrofit

What a mouthful that ship name that is. I have had people tell me to just call it a Fleet Nebula though, much easier.

Anyway. This is the ship I settled on after I got to 50!

While I was leveling up I made it a point to try a variety of ships, I liked my Nova and the Akira escort but didn't like the Defiant at level 30.

At level 40 I got the Assault Cruiser and I really enjoyed it, but it didn't have the science skills I wanted. So searched and settled on the Fleet Nebula, and I have loved it.

One issue I had though was that it only had 3 weapon spots front and back and I know my damage suffered for it, but switching a launcher to a beam array made it much better. At the moment I only use beam arrays and the cutting beam. With FAW and APB I get some nice damage from it.

My question is, The Romulan hyper plasma torpedo, should I slot one on the front?

I am currently running
4 Fleet plasma beam arrays
(Am planning on getting the Experimental beam array, just not there on rep yet)
The Cutting Beam
Maco Engine and Deflector (still need more Omega Marks for the shield)

Slotted I have the Assimilated Console and the Zero point console, as well as 2 Science consoles from the embassy.

Both of these give me a set bonus to the weapons I have. I am wondering if the Romulan Hyper plasma torpedo launcher is good enough to put on the front of the ship, along with a fleet beam array and the experimental one, this does give me the Plasma Hyperflux set bonus.

Is it worth it?

Since your setup is primarily for broadsiding, no. The firing arc restricts you too much to be viable. If you want a torpedo launcher up front, and still be able to do broadsides, get the Regent (Assault Cruiser Retrofit) and take the Wide Angle Quantum off of it.

Otherwise, slot turrets in the back and the Hyper-plasma launcher up front. Add in a Projectile DOff that can reduce projectile cooldown and you wont see much of a drop in dps. More than likely, you'll see a raise.

I agree with risingstar. The only torp that works nicely with a broadsiding setup is the wide-angle quantum off the Regent, but you want to keep the hyper torp so you can take advantage of the plasma damage bonus it gives in conjunction with the zero point console. Sci ships need all the DPS they can get since that's their weak spot. So hyper torp and 2 DBBs (or 1 DBB and the experimental array when you get it) up front, and 2 turrets and the cutting beam in the back.

Great choice btw, I also love the Nebula.

    Awesome, thanks for the information.

I think I will keep my build for now, but I will keep your build in mind. After I get the last of my ship stuff I will be working on my ground stuff and I don't have the dilithium to cover it all yet :)
After that I'll check it out :)
