It really saddens me to see how many people are so quick to gripe and complain about all the server problems that STO has been having lately. Sure, to a point i see that it's frustrating cause I too have been booted offline and have lost progress in missions and such, but to me, it's honestly not that big of a deal.
I started playing this game about a year and a half ago as a free to player and since then i have bought ships and features and even purchased a lifetime membership to the game. Why? Because even despite all the problems it's one of the best MMO's I've ever played. In fact it's the ONLY MMO "m currently playing because no other game has such a dedicated group of dev's and content creators that honestly love the game and love the source material and work so hard to constantly improve the game.
No game is perfect, people. Every game has it's problems, and event though STO has had it's problems lately I am not giving up my support of the game, i will continue to play as long as the game is going, and I hope it always will.
So far what i have played of the LoR open Beta, the new content is absolutely incredible! it's almost like a whole new game, ad i loved all the 12 levels i've played of it. I only encountered 2 little buggs in it that weren't even an issue, so to the people who have been working on this i say thank you! this is awesome and i cant wait for it to go live. If i had the funds for a Legacy Pack the only thing you would hear from me is "Shut up and take my money!" .. it's that good.:D
So please know that there are loyal fans of this game that understand how hard you guys are working on this game and appreciate how hard it must be to constantly stay on top of all these issues that pop up and on top of it have to deal with a bunch of complainers who just want to put you guys down. Just know that i'm not one of them. I'm a STO Lifer and i'm proud of it, cause it's been you guys who made me love this game and made me want to put my money and support into it. Keep up the great work ... and again i'm sorry you have to hear so many people complaining.

I think this game is great and will only get better. I'm disabled and STO helps me keep my mind active. Went from F2P to Lifetime Sub because the game is evolving into and even better game. LOR is more than an update it's a brand new even better game.
I've said it before Haters and Trolls are nothing but rabble rousers that fill the air with hate like ejecting Warp Plasma. The Devs deserve thanks and praise not flames.
I'd like to think most people would have understood that these issues appeared when Neverwinter went open beta as this bought in a huge amount of people and likewise a large increase of traffic onto their infrastructure. Hopefully this will be addressed before LoR launches .
Please understand that not everyone who posts against cryptic is just a stupid idiot trying to provoke ppl.
The basic thing at least for me is the following:
I - as many others - also bought lts and ships and stuff worth 1000?+ which is basically like 20 other full games worth of money or any mmo for 50 bugs and then 64 month of subscribing for it.
And yes we got some ingame stuff for that money but at a very steep price. But we dont care because we love the game and are willing to support it heavily.
BUT
At least I feel that Crptics bosses/decision makers (not the devs themselves mind you) dont really appreciate that. We dont get anything above what we paid for. No closed beta access no preferred support response time no bugship carrier pets for the jhdc just to name a few examples and obviously no extra server capacity no explanations what happend when something went wrong nothing. On top of that loads of extra downtime. Just today when they shut down the serverd there was not even a chat notice like usually when they bring the servers down.
Basically - at least when it comes to the server issues we neither get infos nor does it get better and sry but if the game goes down like 6 days out of seven the last week its not to much to say well you cryptic guys are doing something wrong.
And at least my thought always is like "i spent loads of the money I have on this game so i kind of expect them to spent some of their profits on more servers if they are insufficient.
And i dont think thats too much to ask but since we never get any answer/comment to that fact we start ******** at some point. Thats just cryptics fault for having a very very bad information policy. Also at some podcasts with gecko for example he clearly stated that sole bugs are just not worth fixing because fixing bugs doesnt earn them more money.
I just feel i give them a lot and they keep it even if some investment in the game/more servers/more devs would be necessary.
So yes the game is great and we wouldnt ***** so much about it if it wasnt. We would just leave. We want the game to get better and we WANT more trek more missions more everything and surely we're willing to continue spending insane amounts of money on the game. But we wont (everyone has its own limit ofc) when this kind of neglecting the heavy supporters of the game keeps up like it has.
I'm not trying to get free stuff, I don't even care if I get my tribble, I'm just grateful for the chance to play the open beta.
Sure, there are a lot of people who just want to troll, or want free stuff, but I've advocated some kind of ingame mea culpa from the devs myself, especially in anticipation for what will almost assuredly be a rocky expansion launch considering the ongoing spillover login/account/chat server issues from the NWO beta. It's just good business sense -- Cryptic/PWE gets to build on the customer goodwill fostered by a major free content launch, smooth over relations with folks irritated by the frequent outages over the last month, and promote the new content in one fell swoop, if they do it right.
Somebody getting uppity about canon? No problem! Just take a deep breath, and repeat after me:
Too add even more insult if you were in an STF during the first downtime and then logged back on after it came up you might have gotten a leaver penalty like I did. How can they not tell the difference between someone getting booted or server going down from someone actually quitting.
I, like many others, am trying to get things for my character. For instance; I've been spending the past 3 weeks trying to get my hands on a Wells class timeship. Todays downtime without notice angered me because it was the start of "Tour the Universe" event, there went my lockbox keys for today.
It's just another straw that would potentially break the camels back. Not only have we suffered a lot of downtime this week but there are some glaring inaccuracies that shouldn't be around, let alone from an MMO company. For instance, yesterdays downtime was 3 hours by the message but when the team translated it into UTC it was only 2 hours. Isn't that something that should've been noticed? Another example is todays maintenance message on the forums and launcher: Sunday 13th it read, couldn't someone just check the date before bringing the server down, unannounced too?
I'm an avid EvE online player, so I do appreciate maintaining the server. This, however, reminds me of road tax. I pay the tax to get my bike on the road and thus I expect the money to be spent on maintaining said roads but we both know it doesn't happen.
It's obvious that the structure of Cryptic servers isn't working. Common sense would dictate that isolating the games so you keep getting money from one game whilst the other is down but cryptic put them all together, all eggs in one basket.
I appreciate the work in which they do but lets face it, like most things. A kind word only goes so far and company's don't need kind words when things are going wrong they need a kick up the TRIBBLE end to let them know what they're doing is wrong. Don't let them get complacent but on the other hand, don't bite their heads off for no rhyme or reason.
I love how many people on these forums freak out over downtimes of an hour or two hours as if they have nothing better to do with their time than STO. Or how they missed this 15 minute STF or that 'Around the Galaxy' event when it'll all cycle through tomorrow and the next day, and the next day and so on. You aren't missing anything except the same thing. Do something else, it's as simple as that. If this game is all you have and complaining about it is all you can do, then, I'm sorry.
If you are implying that I am a shill hired to sell a product, the answer is NO. I am just a disabled old man in an old folks home who loves to play video games. I praise because I like.

I implied nothing of the sort, though your irrational inference of such is rather suspicious. However, what I was saying is that while the new UI is nice, it's by no means a "brand new game".

Sorry, I stand corrected, and to answer your question more politely, what I see I like, what I like I praise.:o
Unplanned interruptions eat into game time. Not everyone can play all the time. I understand completely that people get frustrated when it happens over and over and over again! This is most especially the case when they supposedly patched the game to fix this very issue.
That said most of what I saw were people having fun and making jokes. They sought out the community during the downtime to engage in some friendly forum PvP. I don't think there is anything wrong with that.
However, I do think the devs need to be careful about upsetting the more devoted fans. People who have spent tons of money on this game should be treated with kid gloves and not taken for granted for the prospect of attracting new fremium players.

It's the little things they mess up that make me worry about their overall approach to repairs and maintenance.
Hence the reason I hesitate to become a life-time subscriber. Until things improve, I will remain a F2P.
Oversell much?
