First of all,

My thanks to whoever was kind enough to give me a beta key. This is the first time I've ever been asked to participate in something like this for STO. I've been waiting for the Romulan faction for most of 2 years, so glad to finally see it here. On the LCARS Interface: I like the versatility of the changes in the UI, I hope some of it carries over into the holodeck release (mainly, I enjoy being able to look at different colors on my screen besides blue/red.) Balancing that though, I to like the non simplistic readouts of the conventional Holodeck UI for Fed/KDF. On Warpcores/Singluarities: I'm glad to see this come out in the game because at least now, there's an actual device, as opposed to the implication of one. More complexity, and more ability to modify one's ship to suit a whim. The devil may be in the details, but I LOVE these details. The same goes for Traits: Can't say enough good things about a captain developing over time regardless of their faction, and getting more craftly, subtle, precise etc.

On Romulan Allegiance: From a game balance standpoint I can see why the new Romulan Republic wants allies, and even how, this allows a character to get access to starbase and faction gear. But regardless of the good of the Republic, why make the choice mandatory? Couldn't there be a third faction that's sick to death of the Feds and the KDF? If I were to record impressions, I had to say something about it and air my view.

On Warbrids, Romulan Gear, and Duty Officers: I'm going to preface this with the fact that I don't play much on tribble (before the beta, it seemed a bit like more work for not that much return.) With that in mind, when I made my initial Romulan Centurion and got her to level 11 (when duty officers are supposed to be awarded) I didn't get a mission for it. Later at level 18 (or so) I got 3 duty officers, and only 3, no initial cadre. Maybe that's working as intended but seems, off. It might be because I don't have a standard Fed Character at that level on Tribble (see above.) I think that warbirds and gear are both more, and less than I expected. More because the graphics and performance are better than anything I could have imagined, and less because options are limited. I can't wait to see the full release, to get a better idea of what I am talking about, right now I'm only describing one little corner of a VAST map.

Finally, On Missions: (subject to edits, I'm still trying to play these) The writing and plots, twists and turns are really great (think that's all right for spoilers.) The (partial) voice talent is good, the objectives clear. Overall I only had one or 2 problems "sticking" in the market area of the Romulan Colony of Virinat, and in the mission "Sleepers" I was beamed into a house/building where I was asked to talk to an NPC that wasn't there. Beaming out and back in didn't fix this one. Hopefully this isn't just a restatement of things already heard, and the devs can get some good from it. Thanks for taking the time to read it over. EDIT: The mission name was actually "Cloak and Dagger." After playing a KDF allied Centurion (Tactical) I note that there are mission restrictions or omissions (esp in dilithium dailies) on that side. Does this indicate a difference in content from the Fed allied Roms? There are no "Empire Defense" dailies, for example. Realizing that the Canon says, Roms are more likely to ally with the Feds, and several ingame things (qualities of duty officers for example) seem to bear that out, my hope is that those areas of content just haven't been added yet. On the Fed side one can do every mission (daily) that a standard officer in the Fed can do. I'd like to see the same, for the KDF allies, or some other Rom specific dailies? I've played this variation to level 33 (Cmdr.) Up to there, the only things I noticed were in the arc, Freedom. mission "The Best Defense" (I think) the inability to see the shuttle I am flying in, and a strange, polychromatic arc (some light bands and some darker bands) across the entire UI no matter what color I choose. It's the same shape as the planetoid arc on the login screen. I only have this problem on TTS, everything on the Holodeck UI is fine. My monitor and my graphic card are both new and in great shape and nowhere else do I see this, I thought to check that before posting. The dark or "normal looking" area is where the planet is on the login screen....the lighter area is greenish grey. I've checked, rechecked and tweaked every setting, and it continues to happen. I'd hope that's not working as intended though I like the idea of being able to see myself, my crew and my ship. Last for this edit, is the revamping/redesign of Drozena Station an experiment? I like it old, cramped, disorganized, and junky. Like your Grandpa's pickup truck, that's part of its charm.
