Ray Harryhausen, the grandfather of everything sci-fi/fantasy in film, died today. News story HERE. Good quotes at the bottom from modern film makers who he inspired.
The creator of many a fantasy, journeys on to places unknown, to create his own...
Thank you Mr. Harryhausen for many an exciting saturday afternoon at the movies.

New home of the Romulan Republic.
I have an idea for what Season 11 should be; Season 11: The Big Bug Fix.
I have not been able to read my bug tickets in over a year, not even the tickets about not being able to see my tickets.
I find the drama of your signature proof of your immaturity, this means you, DR whiners.
The man was a genius and a pioneer in visual effects. I'd love to be able to live to just shy of 93 (don't even think I'll get close to 90) and be as active as he was able to be in those later years. So, while sad, he certainly did have a full and long life. RIP.

"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them." -Thomas Marrone
I remember watching his skeleton scene from Jason and the Argonauts in a film history class and I had to keep reminding myself "This is 1963. He made this in 1963. It is 1963 and he is pulling this off..."
May he find himself in that great studio backlot in the sky.

As a kid/teenager I spent many Friday nights watching the local, late-night horror show. It was fun to see those monster movies. I started a collection of some of Harryhausen's films. Sinbad movies, ftw!

You wouldn't happen to be a Tokusatsu fan at all would you? You know like Ultraman, Godzilla, Kamen Rider and Super Sentai?
