Thinking of starting new KDF for LOR.

Since LOR is bringing a whole bunch more KDF content as well, I'm thinking of starting a whole new KDF character to play through it all in order. I'm thinking of going Tac in a Bird of Prey this time (existing KDF is Eng in a Battle Cruiser). I'd like to try something a little different though, so I'm leaning towards trying out a melee based build for him. Any suggestions on what I should aim for, or if a melee based character is even feasible in this game?

This character is why I don't play my Romulan any more. Tovan Khev is NOT my BFF! Get him off my bridge!

Gorn...I mean you can't go any better than "Reptilian Strength" with its +17.5% Physical Damage.:)

And I think they look great.

The Gorn do look pretty brutal, but personally I've always liked the Klingons. My existing KDF character has an all Klingon crew, and I'd probably go the same way with this one, especially since I want to put him in the B'rel retrofit at level 50. If I made a Gorn character I'd give him an all Gorn crew and put him in one of their ships, maybe a later project after I run out of LoR stuff to do! :P

Should have gone Tac in a Battlecruiser and Eng in a Raptor for some interesting fun.

Letheans are quite interesting and Naussicans as well on ground.

Well I'm already planning two new characters, Romulan and Klingon. Probably go tactical for both, as I only have one Tac character, all my others are Sci and Eng. I may even have some time to look in on my existing characters from time to time. XD

The BOP will indeed be a unique experience, so those ships will give you that.

For ground, melee is actually quite viable, even without melee weapons. With the proper skillboxes, I've had my KDF TAC go:

    Close Combat Specialist

Compression Pistol for Exploit Damage with a faster recharge than Rifle equivalents

Security Officer DOFFs that provide Melee Critical Chance & Severity

You can take your warrior right into the middle of as many NPCs and do Sweeping Strikes for a spammable PBAOE that also does knockdown and is an Expose Attack. With the DOFFs I mentioned, within a strike or two you WILL get at least 1 Expose effect. Then you can use Lunge III for massive damage and a KD. Then go back into Sweeping Strikes. Then, when more Expose effects occur, if Lunge III is still on a CD, use the Compression Pistol for a very strong Exploit attack with its 2ndary strike. The beauty with Compression Pistols in this kind of build is that unlike rifles, esp. the Sniper ones, is the very quick firing of the Exploit attack. Very minimal chargeup. I can mix it up quite well between Lunge III and a Compression Pistol.

Then you have the kit's Stun Grenade as well as Motion Accelerator for even more fun and carnage, esp. the latter.

Yeah, I might delete my sci officer that I haven't leveled yet and just start a new one, maybe make an Orion or even spend the C-points for a Ferasan just for the sake of having one.
My PvP toon is Krov, of The House of Snoo. Beware of my Hegh'ta of doom.

Thats 100% exactly what you want with a melee toon. Make the BIGGEST Gorn possible. Unless the FEDS are all armed with giant foam rocks you will be unstoppable!

I can guess after playing the new tutorial like I did on Tribble a few hours ago and through the first four or so new missions, you'll want to roll more than one new KDF character. Lots of fun, those new missions are on par with the new Romulan content but feel totally Klingon.

Lethean's with their Rapture are a lot of fun, works well against Tholian's at Nukara Prime. I was thinking the other day of changing my Lethean species if they ever bring out a re-racial token, but after a couple of hours on Nukara I've decided I won't, just love their Rapture too much, can be the difference between death or living to continue the glorious fight.
