Possible Rewards Change to "Mind Games" Mission in the Romulan Faction

sirboulevardsirboulevard Member Posts: 722 Arc User
I would like to propose the following change to the rewards to Mind Games in the Romulan Storyline for Legacy of Romulus.

Add a unique (as in one-per-toon) [Red Matter Capacitor] to this mission as a co-shout-out like the I.R.W. Knial (in it's Narada forme) is.

For those of you who complain that its not fair to the pre-order people I make the following points.

1) Pre-orderers or people who bought the collector's edition will be the only one capable of claiming the device on the Federation or Klingon side.

2) The version from the mission would be unique thus making people with the Legacy unlock on Romulan Side still the only ones who could claim multiples of the device.

3) It helps balance Romulan Power Levels with their reduced power levels from the Singularity Core by giving them a reusable battery.

4) For in-story reasons, it makes sense the Romulans would have this tech as Red Matter is used to make artificial singularities. Since the Singularity Cores would need to be created in such a manner, a Red Matter Capacitor does seem like a Romulan Native Tech.

I have the device from my Collector's Edition and I am all for giving it out to players who couldn't or can't buy it and still want the device. This way gives it as a freebie to players while still giving the pre-order definite advantage.

Yes, it is still available to buy from Amazon. But I think the OP is pointing out that there are people who cannot order from Amazon or do not spend money on STO who would like to have the RMC. Plus as was pointed out it would be a freebie reward for the Romulan Faction to help with the -20 Base power singularity cores have for new players starting on the Romulan faction.

I know it's still availible. That's how I got mine. But not every player wants to spend real money to get it. Its like how people grind dilithium to get a C-Store ship. The RMC isn't that big of a game breaker and its still one of two items (the other being the TR-116 rifle, which you CANNOT get anymore) that cannot be earned in-game (the Rivera Tribble and Pre-order Borg are in the C-Store).

This still seems like a good way to appease both sides of the camp and be a nice shout out.

This is exactly what I meant.

If it becomes too easy to deal with X that was instituted to balance Y, then Y is no longer balanced...

Why not reward a "Red Matter Singularity Core", that acts like a core version of the efficient impulse engine? Or perhaps the core could have some sort of temporal differential ability?

RMC is a +5 boost to all power on a 20 sec buff w/ a 2 minute CD. Its not a game breaker. And on the romulans thats basically a 20 seconds every 2 minutes of being slightly more powerful. + 5 power on top of the -20 the Sing. Cores gives is minor compensation I think.

And I dont support a Red Matter Warp Core. We're not some swirly whirly ship that creates alternate realities! LOL

Lastly, I see this as a door-opener to get both of the last two Legacy items in game in a way that still benefits the people who paid real money for them. I'd like to see F2P players earn a RMC or TR Rifle somehow but still let paying customers get a better deal.

It's much more likely that they'll add the Red Matter Capacitor to the Lobi Store, than offer a free version. The original intent of pre-order items like this device was to incentivize customers to spend money.

No, just... no. Lobi would be outrageous (since it would just be a better deal to just buy the collectors edition and get unlimited ones). The rage would be... palpable to say the least. The C-Store or even the Reputation System would be much more acceptable.

But again, this is neither here nor there as the Pre-order items period is long over. If they want to monetize it, make it be in a way that's fair to players that doesn't actually cost them more than it would to buy it originally (lobi would be crazy expensive for it).

If you want to take that route:
C-Store - Red Matter Capacitor (which they said a few years ago is a "No.")
STF Rep System - TR-116A Rifle

At least the way I posted also gives a reason for current players to try out the Romulans since they can try a toy they can buy for their other toons later if they like it.

I recall a few months back when someone asked on the forum why the Red Matter Capacitor and other Pre-launch items were not put in the C-store and Stahl responded and said that they couldn't due to ongoing agreements with various companies.

And the Red Matter Capacitor was under an unique agreement with Paramount with the JJ Trek. So they definitely aren't going to give it away for free, at best if they are allowed to, they will put it in the C-store.

    Why would there be rage?

Lobi are easy to get. I make enough Dil off 4 characters doing DOFF missions to get enough Zen to buy 10 keys a week. I haven't actually run a mission in a month.

It's not exactly a hard to come by currency.

Are you actually serious? People who don't spend money on STO? Yet you are making a recommend why you should get something???

So you are QQing that you cant get an item that people who have paid money into the game can get? LISTEN TO YOURSELF. People like you make me sick, you spend time playing the game, yet have no desire to support it. However these kind of people are the first to complain about faults in the game or bugs. Honestly, some individuals really dont have sense of reality sometimes.

If i was any developer reading this, i would laugh wholeheartedly and bring out a new and improved red matter capacitor for paying customers only.

If you dont want to spend any money on a video game then fine, but dont sit there at your computer making suggestions because you feel hard done by. Get your hand in your pocket tight fisted peasants! Its like going into a bar, not buying anything to drink, then saying the beer is off!!!!!!!!!!!

I am whole'heartedly against giving away a RMC as a freebie, lobi, or c-store. I already spent my hard earned money to preorder this game (after the fact, bought if off amazon like it was suggested) to get the RMC. If someone wants it badly enough they can do it as well. QQ SOME MOAR NUB

That's interesting since the Jellyfish was from the Prime Universe and pa and parcel of the Romulan Homeworld destruction this game was saddled with. That said, I don't see them making 'for pay' item suddenly free.

Like h been said, they'd either move it to the C-Store, put it in a Lockbox, or in the Lobi store.

    Oh the entitlement.

Anyway, they cant touch preorder items I think because of badly made contracts. Of course they could add an item that is not related to it but has the very same effect.

Call it a "Reserve power source" or whatever.

There's also the automated point defense console that I got from my limited edition game and that I still use on must of my ships.

But yeah, this would be a bad idea I would think...
