I've project managed many graphics projects and a lot of what I am seeing reminds me of when production people would use low res preview images or thumbnails.
My first thought was that they are simply linking to the wrong folder.
Once you become aware of the texture changes, it becomes very noticible.
Also seems like some effects have downgraded as well.
Just a thought but maybe the idea here is that they released compressed textures with a sharpened alpha channel...
And to save time, they batch converted everything.
Now, as we report things that are nociably degraded, they revert those textures to the higher quality form but leave things that aren't noticeably worse compressed to optimize the game.
In short, they batch optimized the game and our feedback is being used to determine what specific optimizations to roll back.
Meanwhile, they're also using the optimization to make some details textures higher Rez by having a smaller pattern repeat more.
Just checked some of the textures for the May 7th update and still no change.
I suggest that you file an in-game bug report with all your screenshots and then post the same report to the Tribble bugs forum with the ticket ID. It's possible that tacofangs may not have seen this thread.
That may be a good idea. I think he's seen it, though, or maybe got word when I told Dan about it in-game, since the ship consoles were fixed. But still would be nice to get some confirmation on what the story / plan is.
Tbh, most of those screenshots look exactly the same to me. Also, most of them look much worse than what I see in-game.

for me the game is starting to get the cheap Champions Online look instead of the STO I've known for years.
If they want to use sub par textures thats fine but whats happening is that they they are being mixed together. So you have nice sharp looking detailed things next to muddy low rez stippled looking ones. Makes the "updated" textures stand out as being bad.
I know the new textures some are better some are worse, but please post screenshots in a lossless format or something.
/screenshot (or screenshot_ui) already makes it jpg rather then a lossless bmp, and then u go and edit them with red markers and save it again as jpg, double loss in quality.
Use printscreen instead and Ctrl+V in mspaint then save it as lossless bmp/png please for some decent comparisons.
One jpg isn't consistantly being degraded more than the other, you don't need lossless to get the idea of whats going on. You could also just log in and notice the whole game is annoyingly shiny, things look cleaner and sharper from a distance, then you zoom in and its all blotchy and overly reflective, which hides most defects from far off.

I'm not about to make all those again. If you can't tell the difference then look in the game for yourself. I think it's fairly obvious what the differences are, jpeg or not.

The point being that saving it multiple times with compression affect the image quality so the comparisons are not a real reflection of the real thing.

And that idiotically increased sharpness/shinyness is indeed something which needs to be 'fixed'
And on another note, alot of these things are only properly visible in the game itself, no screenshot can show the high amount of shimmering from the overly sharpened textures, only a moving camera and real time rendering can show that.
So I think i have two valid arguments.
Again not denying that these textures overpass have been pretty bad at times.
I swear a lot of these new textures eat a lot of memory. I am starting to lag quite a bit in certain areas. For example Fek'lir missions, there's things that are invisible or generate so many particles that it lags you out.
The screenshots below were taken on May 13, 2013, after the patch to Tribble.
1. The winter jacket looks slightly worse after the texture changes. The difference is most noticeable on the lower edge of the lapel and the second buckle from the top on the left (right-hand side of the character).

I usually run with low graphics settings. The specifics are provided in the following tickets:

I've taken some closer screenshots from the tailor. The screenshots below were taken on May 14, 2013, between 9am and 10am PST. Compared to the Holodeck image, the Tribble image is blurry near the bottom edge of the lapel and the buckles.

It is a peculiar phenomenon that we can imagine events that defy the laws of the universe.

This is a very poor way to do it. Even with hundreds of players providing feedback, we won't be able catch all the degraded textures in the game.
The textures for the plasma weapons are very muddy. The is no detail and it looks very dirty.
When you stand next to someone who has say the Romulan disruptors already in game it looks like stuff done for separate games.
The old one is detailed and looks fairly real. The plasma I am using does not.
Its like one is a sketch and the other is a photograph.

You should really go to the opticians and check your eyes

What Cryptic should consider before releasing anything.
