Rather than fight over the JJverse, I thought I'd bring up something we didn't get in the 'real' Prime timeline (i.e., ours) - the talk about putting together an Excelsior series instead of Voyager in the 1990s.
- the same writers and producers as Voyager, with the same problems
+ Larger connections to the Trekverse, more Lost Era content
+ George Freaking Takei!
Tim Russ would have been a natural for Excelsior - they already had him handy, he already was a big ol' Trekkie, and he and Takei had worked together and had a mutual friend in Howard Stern. Probably not as Tuvok, though - oh well.
At least in theory, this would give us a situation where the 24th century on TV wraps with What You Leave Behind, with TNG carrying the banner (albeit not very well) in the movies.
The alt-Enterprise might have been a return to that period with a ship exploring the newly-opened Gamma Quadrant, or maybe helping with Cardassian reconstruction efforts (since presumably all the sets and props would still be there.)
Yeah, that would've been nice as a follow-on to Undiscovered Country.
...Oh, baby, you know, I've really got to leave you / Oh, I can hear it callin 'me / I said don't you hear it callin' me the way it used to do?...
