For you it may be end of story. For others, not so much. A true "bad guy" faction could be fun. If anything, what's being done with the content for LoR shows you can tell the same story from multiple viewpoints.
LoR is a back story that leads up to the first romulan FE
I had hoped people would ignore this post. Seeing as how the whole idea is:
Insulting to the borg as one of the best enemies in series ever.
The borg have no individuals.
The fact that even if they managed to destroy the borg their "idea" by adding in a faction you prob wont feel as badass as you want to feel.
Mainly i would appreciate it if people respected them enough to let them be the one thing they want to be but realise they could never be. Who wouldnt want to fly around in a cube... But it would detract from the awesomeness .....
That said, this is my subjective opinion. And i cant stop people from posting this request, even if its as silly as asking for a T5 Connie that would supposedly be able to take on the top new modern ships... There is only so much i personally am willing to sacrifice in order to make an mmo.... And that line was already crossed when cryptic threw pride in the uniform in the garbage can for the feds.
*shrug* ill stop ranting now.
Well said. Couldn't have said it better myself. I agree with every single word.
But seriosely, in all honesty, and I'm saying this as someone who is lobbying for a Cardassian faction, all of us should really really let these threads requesting or wishing for the next following faction to rest. At least a dozen of them have popped out just in the past week and it makes no sense. STO just got a new faction that many people were asking for 3 years - the Romulans. It's a bit silly to push for more factions before the Romulans are even released, furthermore they will need more development in the furure to put them on more equal level to the other 2 factions if in no other area then in their starship rooster at least.
So just let Cryptic digest the expansion, introduce Romulans, bring more content, bring more equality to the existing 3 factions, fix all the little bugs and then we'll talk about a fourth faction.
The T-5 Connie Folks have a better shot than this does...
And that's not saying much.

Devs always have the "bad guys" end up being good.
Expecting Cryptic to do that in a game not built around PvP, good luck waiting on that. You have a better chance of finding life on Mars than this group pulling it off.

No Borg, One it's going to be a Liberated Borg, that's not Borg it's humans and Alien Cyborgs, which you can get with a LTS....I can see Romulan not being all evil and menacing with the New Romulus stuff becasue they are diverse, but a Borg there is no diversity with the Borg they are just Borg.
The Borg need to be left alone, and maybe down the road when we get to the Delta Quadrant after we take care of WHOEVER is messing with our stuff. We face the Borg again, but this time they are bigger and badder and not the Alien of the week bad guys But a Fire the will consume the Galaxy Earth, Qo'noS, and New Romulus on fire war everywhere bad guys again.
ALERT STARFLEET COMMAND. WE HAVE ENGAGED THE BORG
With that rant...Tomorrow Best of both Worlds Woohoo can't wait.
Now that's a good point. What enemies are they supposed to fight in their cubes? And what ships will they get at level 1?
They don't fight enemies. The Hugh-vian Borg Liberation Front assimilates useful data from any and all potential allies. The assimilation processor (sort of the cube's take on singularity cores) will just make this process come in a variety of flavors and give out special powers to do all that.
I would love to play a renegade borg. The group in which (Kdf assimilated captain in Voyager) helped janeway in a battle against the borg, where he was "in charge" of a borg sphere. Love to play these type of borg. Where they they had there own uniqueness but still had borg technology applyed to their bodies, not to mention piloting borg vessels.
You could have it similar to how the republic romulans are now, where these renegade borg would have the option to join an alliance with the federation or klingon empires in the fight against the evil borg collective.

Didn't Cryptic say during a recent Q&A that their idea of how to make a working Borg faction would be that it would consist of Liberated Borg, like the aforementioned klingon captain or Hugh, as opposed to the enemy Borg? I know I would be very interested in playing a Borg faction if it was set up this way, similar to how the playable Romulan faction will differ from the Romular Star Empire.

Yes I do recall them mentioning this in eather a podcost or something not to long ago.And to be frank its really the only way it could be done, logically. We wouldnt be able to play true borg drones due to that whole "one shared mind" and again the queen directs the drones to do her bidding of course lol.
I even thought of some cool things they could do for this,
- locutus body suit, eye piece costume
- maybe some sort of interesting "outlook" on the game as if you were looking through a borg eyepiece. Maybe even to be able to pick up little hidden things that others wouldnt see.
- different borg weapons that are actually "arm weapons" then whats given in the omega rep system
