I'd just like to say a few words about the whole RSE/Romulan Republic thing.
Did I originally envision playing as Romulan member of the RSE? Of course I did.
Before I continue along those lines, let me just point out the big old elephant in the room: Hobus.
The Hobus Supernova was not a decision made by Cryptic. It was a decision that they had to deal with in their own storyline.
If there hadn't been a Hobus Supernova, it's conceivable that we would've had an RSE. It's also possible that the entire Romulan storyline would have been far less compelling.
Given how the path to 2409 played out, though, this Romulan Republic thing makes a lot of sense. In my opinion, it was an elegant solution to the problem caused by Hobus and to the issues surrounding the introduction of a new faction. And please note that it doesn't necessarily rule out any future developments.
Whether or not I ultimately like the solution (and the storyline) time will tell. But I have to admit that it was probably the smartest solution they could've come up with for the longevity of the game. They will probably have to tweak it, but the general idea was a good one.
As far as the Legacy pack goes, I agree that's too much money for most of us to spend in one shot. But as I will no doubt be able to purchase at least some of that separately, to get just the pieces I want, I'm satisfied.
