I tried costuming a Reman male bridge officer (KDF side) today. I tested all the uniform options and kept a running tally of bugs. As I had not run into serious issues with costuming the Romulan faction thus far, I was hopeful. Unfortunately, there are numerous serious bugs, some of which mimic the bugs that have plagued Orion female and Alien costuming since Season 1. I had tried to write out my report as a bug report in game, but accidentally navigated away just before I was finished writing. I will replicate my report here to the best of my ability.
The most vexing problem is what I call colour-linking. By this, I mean that, when you change the first colour of one costume item, it also changes the first colour of other costume items to the same colour, and the second colour links to the second, and so forth. (If I'm not being clear, this is the same as the problem with Orion female costuming.) The components that are linked together are Tops, Lowers, Wrist-Left, and Undershirt. (Wrist-Right is not affected because it has actually been assigned the wrong palette--the hair palette rather than a costume palette.)
Also evident is an apparent coding error. When clicking on certain costume items, a secondary menu appears underneath, with the costume name, but with odd characters mixed in, and the palette moves down to the new second line. This also introduces colour-linking issues that aren't otherwise there. The items affected by this issue are:
Feet: Romulan Klingon 1 and 2
Top: Reman jacket (presently listed under both Jacket-Tight and Jacket-Loose even though it's the same item)
Chest (opens when Uniform-Vest is selected.)
The Romulan Klingon 1 and 2 Tops also have a visibility issue. There are spaces in the uniform through which you can see right through the character to the other side. (I know we have cloaking technology in this universe, but this is ridiculous--I'm just kidding. Had to slip in a joke somewhere.)
Most frustrating of all, though, is the fact that, when I left the costumer, my Reman bridge officer was nowhere to be seen. When I opened up my list of bridge officers, the box in which I'd normally see his full body was blank. When I selected him for a Starship Station, instead of getting a mini-portrait, I got a little icon instead. I didn't get the chance to try him in an away mission, so I don't know whether any of my costume changes even saved. I'll find out the next time I'm in game.
Other players brush off the current costuming bugs, especially since they've been present since Day 1. But with a new faction opening with only three species, having one of the species--one that will likely be quite popular--to have so many bugs is going to cause a great deal more disgruntlement, I imagine. I really want to see the Romulan faction get off to a great start. (And, if in the process of fixing the Reman costuming bugs, the Orion and Alien costuming bugs get fixed too, so much the better.
)
Thank you very much.
Comments
Given that this "colour-linking" bug is the same that has plagued Orion female and Alien male costuming since Season 1, I'm guessing that this is a bug deeply embedded in the costuming programme itself, and therefore it's not likely to be fixed. I'm just worried that, with only three playable species in the Romulan faction, to have the costuming of one so badly flawed will not look good at all to those anxious to play the faction.
Finally, I'm just curious as to why the physical features of my Reman female bridge officer are so radically different from those of Veril, the Reman female you pick up early on. It's implausible to think they look like the same species, and would love it if the random bridge officer looked more like Veril, and thus more like the Reman males.
Thank you
Also I noticed, at least with my captain character, some of the polygons in the neck aren't lining up properly, looks like a thin line where you can see light from behind the character.
