I'm all for new Cryptic designs, as long as they're better than the Gladius.

"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them."

Hmm, kind of torn on the idea actually. I think the Bortasqu' and the Odyssey look good, but most of the designs where they've taken a canon ship and 'updated' it look really ugly - it's hard to improve a design that's already been perfected. As a rule I prefer the canon skins to the Cryptic ones though, for me it seems like the canon ones are more memorable, even they mean more. For instance, I'm looking at getting the Fleet Tor'Kaht for my KDF character, but the skin just feels a bit anonymous to me, so I personally would chose the Vor'cha skin to go on it.

This character is why I don't play my Romulan any more. Tovan Khev is NOT my BFF! Get him off my bridge!

The Federation has enough C-store ships, Wouldn't mind seeing some new KDF ships

Well Cryptic seems to have done fine on ships that they had time to make. That is the Odyssey/Bort/almost all the C-store ships are really nice, it is when the game launched that they had bad ones. About the only one of the original leveling ships I like is the Star Cruiser. I would /love/ to see it released as a pure Fed Carrier, like they updated the Akira to the Armitage.

So as long as they take their time with the design, I feel it will turn out pretty cool. Granted the Haa'pex is pretty out there for Romulan ships, but that model is not in game either...

My favorite Cryptic design is the Exeter class. If they can make more ships that beautiful, I'd shell out lots of cash for them.

People still complaining about canon in STO, need to get over it. Canon was gone on Launch Day when:

      a) You could fly the Constitution Class (original) in 2409.
      b) The Uniform Dress Code was tossed out the airlock.

All one needs to do is beam aboard Spacedock to see just how un-canon STO is, because Starfleet looks more like the Ringling Brothers Circus than the military organization of the UFP.

At this point, Cryptic would be wise to pull out all the stops, and give the players just about everything they ask for, so long as it makes them money. T5 Connies, Commodore & Fleet Captain ranks, new ships, enemy ships, old ships, the whole kit & kaboodle.

It can't get any worse than it already is, with Jem'Hadar ships in the Sol System and Starfleet-Borg hybrid vessels and 42,979 uniform variations.

I don't think it's a matter if we want to see more Cryptic designed ships, but rather when. We're at the point where the remaining canon, seen on the screen, Starfleet ships can probably be counted on one hand. There's even less Klingon designs. Just about everything else is either lockbox or future faction material.

I want Cryptic to expand their current ship release strategy.

I want them to release new designs that fit into the customization options of other ships. Their stats will be different in ways, mostly just different BOFF slots though.

For example, they really need to release a non carrier version of the armitage. They should give it a new boff seating thats more escort like, an escort turn rate, less health or shields, and a quantum torpedo spread console. The console and skin could only be shared with the armitage class and vice versa.

I wish they would do stuff like that for all the ships.

More ships like the Patrol Escort, Star Cruiser and Deep Space Science Vessel with 5 mix and match parts each please.

My only regret is not buying the Torkhot skin.

For the people who do not want Cryptic Ships .... why?

We are in the 25th Century , and Starfleet need's new ship because of the high mechanical demands of space travel. Old ships are nice ... but sometimes you need a new Android to an old Nokia .

Canon ships are all nice and all but let tell you something, trek "purist"? its make me laught. Canon Nerd? really? have you seem DS9? most are about war! janeway of voyager? she is bloodthirsty sometime, she did very questionable things during her 7 years trip in the delta quadrant, very un-starfleet things.

also this game is in the year 2409, most of the canon ships are obsoletes and old, most are updates of the old ships, we have old, new, something in between, everything to play! why complaining? why whining? this is a game! and even more NO CANON.

want to play as RSE? too bad, is dying, thanks to the auto-destructive Tal'Fail (and J.J verse).

Don't like the romulan republic? stay with fed or the klingon then. I don't understand you people. but you can't complain in something that is out of you control.

How about it gang? Want some new Cryptic ship designs in game? Do you have a design you like from the old contest that you feel should get in game?

Post your thoughts, reasons and some links to pics when applicable. Let's try to keep it in the 'original' or 'unused' designs category. Meaning not something we have seen on screen. (Those are almost used up)

Sure. My secondary ship from my fed main ist a "Defiant" using a Cryptic Skin; I like the sleek modern design. Main ship is Oddy; also not a ST original but IMO totally starfleet.

Not all of them are great (Galaxy Envoy - urgs), but the same goes for the originals and in all cases its personal taste anyway.

...was that to level headed or should I add some insults or nerdrage?

      Well said sir.

They can't please everyone, but that is life.

To my eyes, yes there have been some uglies, but have had more hits than misses. I like the new Romulan T5 ship I saw. Bring me MOAR Cryptic and keep up the good work!

Most of the Cryptic ships that can use the Type 6 material look really nice: Armitage, Exeter, Regent, Venture.

I'd like to see a 2409 variant of the Excelsior, personally.
