Introducing: STO Starship Comparator Web-App

Hi Folks!

As some of you certainly have noticed in the thread about Spidermitch's Shipcharts,
I spent a lot of time creating a web based app which allows to compare the different
playable starships 1 vs. 1. There also is a small app for android based devices - merely
a browser with a hardlink to the website, but I liked the idea.

For the web app I used parts of spidermich's charts as well as the layout and graphics
starfish1701 created for his chart of the vice admiral and fleet ships.

Since my work has finished (at least until all the new romulan ships will arrive)
I decided to move out of the old sticky thread and start this new one.

I hope you enjoy it.

    That's embarrassing, I didn't realize there were two different versions...

    WHy not put them both into one app? It'd make it easier to compare ships between factions.

    Hey, that's really good!

    I just ran a comparison on each faction between a ship I own and a ship I am considering - works really well; I can see the answer at a glance. Bookmarked!

    I like this, but two suggestions I would make is to change the names in the drop downs to just the ship names as using the image file names looks a little sloppy.

    And, maybe use a placeholder image rather than a broken image when there is no current ship selected when you select a new class.

    Also a note: It appears the android app you've created is a link directly to the webpage itself. Which is fine and all. But due to the image broken box that is used when no ship is selected, it stretches both the box and the ship type drop down out and kinda makes everything wonky looking.

    This is awesome! Oh, and by the way, the fleet heavy escort carrier gets a +1 engineering console, not a +1 science console.

    heavy escort carrier and fleet varient are listed under carrier but it should probably be under escort since (1) its an escort first and (2) you have the 3 different vestas listed under science ships when they are much of a carrier as the armitage

    Great! The site will be easier to maintain because you'll just have to add individual graphics for each new ship.

    You need a better URL through, look at http://www.redirection.net/. For $7.50/year + Plus a domain, you could have something like www.stoshipcompare.org and point it to your actual site address.

    What might be cheaper would be to try to get a link on the main menu of STOWiki.org.

    Something easier for people to remember your site's address/location.

    Nope, it is a +1 science console slot. Well it is on mine anyways ;)

    And that's what's also shown in the in-game ship store. (Good, no reason to update the stowiki...)
    TOIVA, Toi Vaxx, Toia Vix, Toveg, T'vritha, To Vrax: Bring in the Allegiance class.
    Toi'Va, Ti'vath, Toivia, Ty'Vris, Tia Vex, Toi'Virth: Add Tier 6 KDF Carrier and Raider.
    Tae'Va, T'Vaya, To'Var, Tevra, T'Vira, To'Vrak: Give us Asylums for Romulans.

    Don't make ARC mandatory! Keep it optional only!

    That is because the drop down list is generated dynamically. The list items are the actual
    images which then are used in the variable that displays the image.
    The reason I did it this way is that I only have to add a new ship image into the right folder
    and I'm done.

    I solved it this way:

    All ships with hangar bay(s) are listed in "Carrier".
    The escort carriers are in "Escort" as well now.

    I did not do that, because the main reason to compare ships imo is helping to make a
    decision which ship of your own faction you want to choose.
    I think it would be confusing not to split factions - even more when romulans are added.
    In fact I still wait for the question why certain ships are displayed with a golden frame - this could be confusing as well ;)
    (Answer is: they are cross-faction)

    If you want to compare different factions, I suggest you use two browser windows and place
    them next to each other sliding half of each window out of the viewing range of your monitor.

    Nicely done! And very timely for me as I've been wondering which ship to use for an experimental plasma build on my tactical captain. This allowed me to see that I'd put him in the wrong ship :o oops lol

    I updated the android apk.
    Now it points to the welcome page, where you can choose a faction from.

    I'll start to populate the romulan faction soon.

    Do not expect miracles - but the romulan faction page is online!

    It will take a while to fully populate it - not all information is available atm.

    Great app!! one note though. You have the mirror assault cruiser and mirror star cruiser tabs mixed up.

    Star Cruiser shows assault
    Assault shows Star Cruiser
