What's there to accomodate? Retraining your skill tree, changing ships and changing weapons, all of which costs a ton of in-game resources, is what people have to do to react to development changes.

Changing your profession to go from Subnuc to Attack Pattern Alpha to Miracle Worker? That's so not a big deal.

Except the captain skill tree itself really doesn't make sense. The game would be a lot less restrictive regarding your personal hanger of ships if the present skill tree was attached to the ship being commanded not the captain. Graviton Generators, Hull Plating, and most of the other skill box quantities could and should change depending on which ship you command at the time. The updated system of captain traits should provide either a benefit or a detriment to various ship systems relevant to the profile of the captain in command.

It would be essentially trying to weasel out of leveling up another toon to level 50 mostly because you just want to play as "something else" without having to do the work.
