I had hoped this would be the New Romulan/Federation War

These guys came up with a phenominal trailer for a fan series way back in 2007 - a war between The Federation and the Romulans.

Then JJTrek went and screwed it all up.

Still almost 6 years later this FAN trailer is as good as anything I have seen for a series. Interesting note: the new class of Starship in the trailer is called the Legacy class.

Cryptic should contact them to create a Legacy of Romulus trailer - that would be awesome.

Edit: also if someone could explain why Romulans will start killing each other in a war that is not theirs and has proven to be faked by a 3rd/4th party - that would help me too.

Cryptic can barely do a convincing Klingon-Federation War. . .let alone a Romulan-Federation War.

The so called Klingon - Federation war was a big mistake by Cryptic. By design and how it was handeled. I doubt they could do a Romulan - Federation War.

Yeah I need someone to explain to me again - after all those Romulans have been killed - the colonist/farmers decide the next best thing is to join up with the feds or klingons and kill each other in a war they have nothing to do with?

    How is that explained?

Well, after playing the Romualan Episodes, it felt more like having a FED-ROM-War instead of a FED-KDF-war.

    Eh...

Feds and Klingons are at war... but conveniently team up for just about everything.

So what you're saying is Paramount decided to go in a completely different direction than a fan fic video series? Those heartless zombies! Damn them all to heck!

Nah. Cryptic already has its own take on Romulans coming out in about a month.

The Iconians are making this happen. Should explain that as well as can be expected I'd say.

I'll agree, the trailer shows a side of the Romulans I would much rather have as a faction than the Romulan Republic. It would be so straightforward and easy to create a Romulan faction that was faithful to the idea of Romulans while being compelling to play- I don't quite understand why Cryptic would purposefully choose to miss the mark by so much.

The KDF and Feds have never been at war in STO. At most it is a cold war with minor skirmishes. For the Romulans, they are basically screwed up from the beginning and allying with former enemies is the quickest way to build their civilization. So helping the Feds or KDF with something like searching Romulan space for Tholian bases would give various resources to the Romulan Captain's colony. After all, survival is far more important than pride.

Star Trek is about more than war. I for one will be proud to be a citizen-soldier working alongside helpful allies for the betterment of my people.

But, if you want another storyline, we have the tool to make one: the Foundry.
